This conference will provide an opportunity for interested members of the public and stakeholder groups to have their say on Ireland’s National Sustainable Development Strategy, which Ireland will review over the coming months. An innovative conference format will draw on participants’
interests, knowledge and experience to explore ideas and insights. Supported by Comhar, The Sustainable Development Council.

Supported by Comhar, Sustainable Development Council, in association with the UK Commission for Sustainable Development, Northern Ireland, this full-day conference will provide an opportunity for interested members of the public and stakeholder groups to have their say in the review of Ireland’s National Sustainable Development Strategy. Following the publication of the revised European Union Sustainable Development Strategy (EU SDS) in 2006, Ireland will review its own strategy over the coming months. An innovative conference format will draw on participants’ interests, knowledge and experience to explore ideas and insights. The day will be facilitated by Second Nature who work in the area of sustainability.

The renewed EU Sustainable Development Strategy provides a template for national action and sets overall objectives and targets for seven key priority challenges:

* Climate change and clean energy
* Sustainable transport
* Sustainable consumption and production
* Public health threats
* Better management of natural resources
* Social inclusion, demography and migration
* Fighting global poverty

In addition, the cross-cutting issues of communication, education, training and research and development are addressed.
