"the light is on for you" = Confess.

category international | crime and justice | other press author Thursday February 22, 2007 14:30author by love croker Report this post to the editors

Washington DC promotes penance.

the Catholic diocese of Washington D.C. has started an advertising campaign to promote the sacrament of "confession" and "penance". With billboard and other notices using the slogan "the light is on for you" the Church hopes to bring back many of the 580,000 catholics in DC to the little box.

Senior church members trying to explain the lack of popularity of the little box point to a general confessional culture - people may go online these days and spill their secrets, transgressions and thus feel better. But that's not enough in their eyes. The Holy Spirit isn't on the net.
I lied, I cheated, I stole, I killed, I coveted, I envied, I ignored, I pretended it was only brits & yanks who could be bad.
I lied, I cheated, I stole, I killed, I coveted, I envied, I ignored, I pretended it was only brits & yanks who could be bad.

Other catholics theorise that rather than a gossip / confessional culture it is rather the lack of awareness of sinning and wrongdoing which has caused the dramatic drop in attendance at confessions not only in Washington but worldwide.

Some non-catholics believe it might have something to do with hypocrisy or not really encouraging people to go into little darkened spaces with priests anymore...

Catholics are of course supposed to go to confession during this season of Lent which began yesterday with the ritual smearing of ash on the foreheads of the faithful.
Putting a few coins in the Trocaire box is not really enough for your eternal and immortal soul.

author by love croker - it is just a stadium for sport. - yep people die in stadiums. they are big enough.publication date Fri Feb 23, 2007 02:48author address author phone Report this post to the editors

But they scare the shit out of me. It's the 23rd day of the second month and has only seemed like a day since the last anniversary. The anniversary of the last overt fascist coup d'etat attempt in Europe. This year instead of telling history or explaining how a long list of men themselves at once "golpistas" as those who attempt or achieve a "coup d'etat" provoke a "putsch".
Ah bearla.
that language which fails some concepts. The 5th of November is not the 23rd of the second month. The name of Cromwell took his bronze statue only 200 odd years after the mob snatched his body from the grave and dragged it through the streets. Our neighbours forgot about this European phenomona by ignoring it, & pretending it happened to other people - in other languages.

The Light is on for you.

You can go two ways on the rest of this text. One is agree religiously that the light is a reward, in which case you hit the back button and go read something else - click this link - http://indymedia.ie/imcfeatures give your friends in Oz a call. they've been good. & now they're in jail.
but they're not going to a big sport stadium just yet. So if you didn't click the link or even if you did -

you're here.

the light is on & doesn't go off.
The next is sound. noise or sound.
silence is a reward. until the voices fill it.
The next is how dry you are -
The next is how cold you are-
The next is the air you breathe.
& we haven't even mentioned what company you may be in
or how comfortably you may move.

so you see - sometimes saying a little prayer is not enough to escape the evil people can do without leaving marks. Today is the anniversary of the last overt attempt by fascists to use a military operation to take power of a democratic state in Europe. This year's memory is a kafka-esque nietzsche in a kaftan blanket -
I write. my bunker. my memory. my darkness and my quenched mouth, my sun warmed fresh air - but I will not fall into the trap of accepting reward. kafka only meets nietzsche when it is fit.

A wise person knows that a "true believer" would use the Line:

"The Light is on for all of us"!!!

He who places himself at the top will quickly find themselves on the bottom (or at least alone)!

Readers might have missed the delightful human interest story which emerged from the Vatican in the last week in a feeble attempt to distract attention from the recent Holocaust denial bishop story ( http://www.indymedia.ie/article/90801 ) or the failed attempt to keep Eluana Englaro on a life support machine (http://www.indymedia.ie/article/91058)

So this article seems the appropriate place to report on how the same Vatican department which brought us the udpated sins & transgressions of road use in 2007, (c/f "Vatican issues "Ten Commandments for Drivers"" http://www.indymedia.ie/article/83088 has now revealed that Men & Women Sin Differently

The report was based on a study of confessions carried out by Fr Roberto Busa, a 95-year-old Jesuit scholar.

[".......The Pope's personal theologian backed up the report in the Vatican newspaper. "Men and women sin in different ways," Msgr Wojciech Giertych, theologian to the papal household, wrote in L'Osservatore Romano. "When you look at vices from the point of view of the difficulties they create you find that men experiment in a different way from women." Msgr Giertych said the most difficult sin for men to face was lust, followed by gluttony, sloth, anger, pride, envy and greed. For women, the most dangerous sins were pride, envy, anger, lust, and sloth, he added........."]

& oddly enough this has proved to be one of the most popular internet news reports on the last week on such wonderful sites as the BBC, the New York Times, the Italian Corriere de la Sera & even facebook.

Attached to this thought on sin & repentance is of course the picture of the kiss which Mary Harney and Michael Mc Dowell shared the night of June 23rd 2006 in Dublin's Unicorn restaurant, when she who destroyed your hope of a health service now you've no hope of paying the VHI agreed he could have the leadership of the PD's, the party which took all the credit for starting the celtic tiger and had the decency to suspend itself before it came around to blaming anyone.

...............................just in case you'd forgotten who to blame.

Pride, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Sloth & Envy - but not in that order.
