MakeRoom Debate on Homelesness

category dublin | housing | event notice author Friday December 08, 2006 11:42author by Niamh Murphy - Focus Ireland Report this post to the editors

Come along and help end homelessness by 2010!

MakeRoom Political Debate on Homelessness
Edmund Burke Theatre, Arts Block
Trinity College Dublin
Wednesday 13th December 2006
6.30pm to 7.30pm

A MakeRoom political debate on homelessness will take place on Wednesday 13th of December at 6.30pm in the Edmund Burke Theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin.

Parliamentary party leaders have been invited to address the motion “Our party can end homelessness by 2010”. Following the interventions of each party representative, the floor will be opened to the public. The event will begin at 6.30pm and finish at 7.30pm.

Focus Ireland, the Simon Communities of Ireland, the Society of St Vincent de Paul and Threshold, recently launched the MakeRoom campaign with a vision to end homelessness by 2010. By ending homelessness, the MakeRoom campaign wants to arrive at a situation where nobody will sleep rough; nobody will stay in emergency accommodation for longer than is absolutely necessary and nobody will become homeless because of a lack of appropriate services.

The MakeRoom campaign will be focused on developing support for key issues that must be addressed if we are to end homelessness and ensure access to safe, secure and appropriate housing for everyone affected by homelessness through a number of different ways:

1) By asking individuals to MakeRoom to help end homelessness by 2010 by signing up to a number of pledges on the MakeRoom website: www.makeroom.ie

2) By engaging with the political arena to ensure that our key recommendations are at the heart of the general election campaigns and to the forefront of political debate in the year ahead.

3) By inviting other organisations to endorse the campaign.

Come along to the MakeRoom debate and help to end homelessness by 2010!
