One More Death in Palestine

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Thursday December 07, 2006 05:53author by Cuileann MK Report this post to the editors

To whom it may concern,

I just heard today that a young guy, 15 years old, who I worked with in Nablus, Palestine this summer was shot dead on Sunday. His crime? To throw a stone. I wrote a few words and attached an article. If
you could stick it up that would be great.

Thanking you,

Cuileann

Just One More Death in Palestine

One more child killed in Palestine. It happens so often it rarely reaches our news.

This summer while working in the Askar Refugee Camp Development Centre I got to know and love the kids we worked with every day. Along with 20 other international volunteers I taught them English, art, dancing, drama, music – all the things kids should be able to enjoy, but rarely do when they’re born a Palestinian refugee. The Development Centre is a place of refuge for the kids, somewhere to escape the harsh reality that is their world and pretend, for a brief moment, that they’re just like any other kid.
Many older kids came down to help out, to surround themselves in a positive atmosphere. Every day without fail, 15 year old Jamil arrived with a helping hand, a smile and a beautiful ability to make me laugh, even in when I was exhausted in the 40 degree heat. He always joined in our games, clamouring, like every other kid there, for the attention of the international volunteers, for the attention of anyone at all.

On Sunday Jamil was shot dead by the IDF.
One fatal bullet to his head.
His crime? To throw a stone at the heavily armoured vehicles of the illegal occupying forces as they rolled up his street. How is this justified? Does it teach anyone to renounce violence or does it just brutally destroy one more beautiful life? How do we allow this to happen, over and over and over? The world is not blind to these atrocities, it just doesn’t care anymore.

Child killed by military fire in Nablus
Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies - Sunday, 03 December 2006, 15:22

Palestinian medical and security sources in Nablus, in the northern part of
the West Bank, reported on Sunday afternoon that Israeli troops shot and
killed a 15-year old child in the nearby Askar refugee camp.

The child, Jamil Jabaji, was shot by a round of live ammunition in his head
after the army, invading the camp, fired at youth hurling stones at them, a
medical source at Rafidia hospital in Nablus reported.

The child was shot in Al Talla area, close to a main road that passes near
the camp. Israeli sources reported that the army made not comment on the
incident.

Five Palestinian were killed since Israel and the Palestinians declared a
truce last week, but Israeli officials insist that the truce is only in the
Gaza Strip, while Palestinian factions said that they will not agree to a
truce that does not include all of the occupied territories.

How on earth did you link those two sites?

One has absolutely nothingto do with the other, just like pro-palestian support and anti-semtism.

You are the one hiding behind knee jerk mantras.

Lie 4: Spreading freedom and democracy
The US wants to paint Iran as a fascist state with Ahnadinejad as the new Hitler (just like Saddam before him).

So the US lies about that according to you? Your organisation thinks Ahnadinejad is perfectly sane, so sane you post it on your website.

We all know your kind, please stop hiding

Criticising the only democracy in the Middle East for allowing children to be murdered could be problematic. The Sunday Indo might pay some hack to accuse you of being 'anti-semitic.' Oh dear. I'm quaking in my bots. }:0(

I wonder what the Israeli mum had taught her son...did she say 'Baby, when you see Arabs throwing stones at your tank, shoot them between the eyes - that's what God says - a bullet in the head, or the heart at worst, for a stone..."
And what will the soldier teach his son/daughter, when he, in turn, becomes a father. Will he say 'You have to respect your dad - I'm the man who killed a couple of Palestinian brats throwing stones at our heroic Army - pride is the name of the game in this holy land"!! And I can hear the granny singing in the background "Children of a lesser God!!"

Righteous Pragmatist

You do have a modicum of sense - yet, you do in your heart of hearts know, that nothing will happen to the specific soldier. After all, it was only a Palestinian who was murdered!

I agree that IDF soldiers often shoot stonethrowers dead without justification. Many IDF soldiers are certainly guilty of murder.

This is a must see for the few pro-Israeli apologists we have on other threads citing all sorts of historical justification for the senseless slaughter of teenage boys like this.
I only fear that they have become so desensitised by the frequency of such debauched and debasing behaviour by unaccountable IDF soldiers, that its tragedy will be lost.
