Clubman Omega Picket goes electronic

category donegal | worker & community struggles and protests | other press author Wednesday November 22, 2006 15:57author by John Doherty The Poor Mans Advocate Report this post to the editors

Show your Solidarity

The Clubman workers have now set up a website where you can sign the guestbook and send messages of solidarity.
www.clubmanpicket.eu

The Picket on the Clubman Omega factory in Buncrana in now in its 32nd week. Since April 3rd many of the workers have been picketing the factory to get the directors to pay up a Labour Court recommendation of 1.5 weeks per year of service. The directors, including some of the most prominent businessmen in the town, have refused. A website has just been set up explaining the workers case including a copy of the Labour Court recommendation.

Please sign the guestbook and add to the pressure on the companys directors to treat their ex-employees fairly.

This is the country that invented the Boycott. If other pressure doesn't produce results, it may well come to that. Buncrana is a small town.

Congratulations to them on the site. I have to drive past this picket most days and I always show support. Its unbelieveable that this has gone on so long. Sean Tighe the MD of Clubman was the FG director of elections in DNE last time round. I wouldn't like to be their candidate looking for votes in Buncrana next year.
The Clubman building has been touted a few times in the local press as a possible location for the new Garda station in Buncrana. For clubman to argue that they cannot afford to pay the reccomendation is absolute rubbish. They have taken an ideologial position that they won't pay what the Labour Court says. If they get away with this how many other employers will do the same thing?

Good to see support starting to build for Clubman workers. But what does it say about our priorities that this issue creates less traffic than Animal Rights? What about Human Rights?

All workers in Donegal should unite behind those on strike to ensure the Labour Court Recommendation is implemented. Remember what is happening to them today could happen to you tomorrow.

It's good to see the plenty of comments coming in on the www.clubmanpicket.eu website. Thanks to everyone for signing the guestbook and please encourage more people to sign and show their support.

We need to show not only the directors of Clubman but management everywhere that workers must be treated fairly.
Most companies are excellent in their treatment of their workers but there are some like Clubman Omega who will use workers, pay minimum wages, pocket the profits and then dump the workers when they are not needed!
Lets all get behing the clubman picketers and ensure justice is done.
