8 plays in four weeks

Limerick, 18th Oct 2006. For Samuel Beckett's centenary, Impact are performing all eight of his stage plays featuring female characters: two full-length and six short plays.

Despite performing four productions already this year, ( and all working for nothing) Impact Theatre Company show no sign of exhaustion; 'Beckett's Women: A Season' shall see the performance of known (Happy Days,Endgame, Not I, Play) and less well-known (Come and Go, Catastrophe, Rockaby, Footfalls) works from a different perspective: these Beckett plays have been chosen specifically to illustrate how the author depicts women. From November 7th until December 2nd the Impact machine will be running more or less constantly in their city centre basement theatre; apart from Sunday and Monday nights, when they shall be installing and removing sets!

Alongside the productions, the month will also feature a specially commissioned programme of essays, a course of lectures held in conjunction with Mary Immaculate College and a series of post-show discussions on Thursday nights, all seeking to debate and understand this aspect of Beckett's work more clearly.

Speaking of this ambitious project, director Patrick Burke said "Yes it is ambitious, and very demanding for everyone involved, but we're delighted to be doing something here in Limerick that hasn't been done anywhere else. An examination of so many of Beckett's female characters is an approach that hasn't been done before. "

Impact is a not-for-profit organisation enlivening Limerick's cultural scene with an impressive work-rate.Contact Niamh Bowen: 086 3641441 for further information.
