Wanted:Songs to Inform & Elevate

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Sunday October 01, 2006 21:31author by Gearoid - Solasauthor email fitzgibbong at yahoo dot co dot ukauthor address An Gort Mor, Baile an Fheirtearaigh, Dingle, Co Chiarrai, Irelandauthor phone 00 353 876267563 Report this post to the editors

New CD Compilation seeks to reflect and unite POLITICAL & SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS

If you feel you have a song relevant to social, political and spiritual life today; if you have written/recorded music that could raise and elevate public consciousness, then PEOPLE SHOULD HEAR IT!!!

WE WANT TO LET THEM HEAR I!!!

'Solas' is looking for new songs about war, peace, politics, society, & spirit in Ireland & the World for a new CD compilation of music to stir and unite political and spiritual consciousness.

The manifestations of ‘values’ of pure profit are blotting out other human values like respect for each other’s lives, beliefs, integrity and basic well being.

Mainstream music like mainstream politics, has failed to articulate a healthy balance between ECONOMICS and SPIRIRTUALITY/MORALITY.

That balance must arise again, from people’s experience, intelligence and awareness on the ground.

3 years ago 100,000 people in Dublin, along with millions across the globe marched in public to express their opposition to the proposed invasion of Iraq. The wishes of these people were ignored, yet the people, their energies and their creativity are still alive and at work in the world.

We need again to assert our core beliefs and values….publicly, to properly reflect our higher elevated selves.

Songs have always been are great way of uniting people - a compilation of new contemporary songs with a social and spiritual purpose would be a good way to reflect and affirm this culture of intelligence, creativity and justice…..

Please feel free to submit previous or current recorded/written works for this new compilation.

All genres, all styles welcome.

Formats accepted:
-Fully recorded songs
-demo recorded songs on minidisk, cd, mp3 or tape!
-words of songs

Email or send or call.
Title suggestions also welcome.

Once we feel we have a strong enough selection of material, we will then go ahead and organise recording and releasing the compilation.
No fee will be paid but the proceeds from sales of the compilation will be divided up EQAULLY between all the contributors after production costs have been covered.
All copyrights will remain with the contributors and sending in music samples or demos will not constitute in any way agreement to participate in the project. Written agreements will be drawn up with all the final participants of DVD.
If you are interested, or for more information, please contact Gearóid(087-6267563) as soon as possible to discuss.

Hi Gearoid,

Would it be possible to have some info / links to this organisation: "Solas"???

I'm familiar with the band but not the organisation.

Thanks,

JP

Hi jan,
there is no organisation called Solas. It means Light, in the native language of Ireland. i was looking for a name and that sounded nice.

So it would be a bit like me asking you about the organisation called 'humanity'!.

Anyway, i'm a bit disappointed that this post has already gone off the main page. It seems that Indymedia, as an activist network, is being clogged up by press releases and stories, while, informative, are not about ACTION. perhap it has to do with the design of the site. but i do think that priority needs to be given to ACTION AND ACTION AND ACTION. it shouldn't be just another news site.

Do you have any more questions about hte CD project or about me?

Do you think that there might be a difficulty or at least some confusion releasing a CD as a project, under the banner of "Solas", given that there is still a semi-active band of that name about...

Perhaps, if the CD was titled: "Solas", that wouldn't be a difficulty...

I think you're being a tad unfair on the contributors in the main to Indymedia, whilst there is alot of stuff on here that might not be the most decisive stuff in the strictest sense, I find there is plenty of action in general and the importance of Indymedia is that it gives people a relatively broad audience to talk to...

Things slip off the front page all the time, I'd suggest you probably be best off hosting something on a seperate site and looking for contributors through some of the irish music sites and maybe getting someone to stick up the odd poster in Dublin, perhaps even the old ad in the back of Hot Press (in the musicians contact free section (do they still have this? I haven't bought HP in about 3 years)...

I was a little interested in the background of the organisation (when I thought there was one) in terms of who would be releasing the CD, so perhaps you might like to tell us a little bit about yourself!!!

In terms of your experiences in both activism and music,

Thanks,

JP

Indymedia is just one of the places where i'm posting this, but if you give me your email address I'd greatly appreciate if you'd print off a few copies and put them up or give them to people you thought suitable.

I you sent an email to fitzgibbong@yahoo.co.uk....i can answer you there. i'm 30, originally from Limerick, now living in Kerry.

do you make music?
