According to this BBC report , after the events of 9/11 , US deputy Secretary of State ,Richard Armitage , threatened President Musharraf of Pakistan saying that his country would be bombed “back to the stone age” unless it backed George Bush’s War on Terror. The Pakistani dictator was surely not being over-sensitive when he described Armitage 's remarks as "very rude".

The implied threat is and always has been that the US would withdraw as a partner in solving the issues of Northern Ireland.

No Taoiseach wants to be the Taoiseach that 'lost' the United States.

A trade has been made - Ireland helps America make war in the Middle East and the America will be a 'partner for Peace' on the Irish island.

After the Feb 15 2003 demo ,Bertie Ahern issued a statement saying that, not only did he support the 150,000 marching that day ,but had he been in Dublin he would certainly have been on the march himself. I wonder whether the organizers of tomorrow's march have extended an invitation to Bertie to attend .
More seriously I would like to know whether threats have been made by the US administration to this country in order to keep Shannon open for troop movement and torture flights.
