Haughey is seriously ill.

category national | miscellaneous | other press author Thursday March 30, 2006 07:33author by Seán Ryan Report this post to the editors

Charlie Haughey is seriously ill in Hospital.

According to the Examiner Charlie Haughey was reported last night as being seriously ill in hospital.
http://www.examiner.ie/pport/web/ireland/Full_Story/did...U.asp

I suppose it'll now be a case where all the usual suspects get to gush about how much of a 'character' he was despite remembering how much of a 'bastard' he was while still in politics. Tis funny they have such poor recollections when remembering their own dealings with him.

Hopefully he's got a few good years in him yet, but if this is it for Charlie, I hope for it to be a peaceful end.

every so often you will hear that haughey is at deaths door. then the next week he will be out yachting or firing a shotgun in west cork to start a race. its a con job. people who are ill and who have fiddled miniscule amounts of money from social welfare are prosecuted and even imprisoned.

the proper place for haughey is in the basement in mountjoy.

Charlie Haughey is one of the great characters ever on the Irish political scene - and like him or loathe him - our treble Taoiseach cared for the Republic - and went well out of his way to assist our brothers up in the north. The comments on this site have been extremely low class. Even if the poor guy was your lifetime adversary - there is no need to lower yourselves to the gutter by jumping all over the fella while he's at death's door. I have a couple of uncles who worked for him when they were down on their luck and Charlie gave them a job to help their families out. There was a big heart there always - something a lot of you fail to see in this big man. Lord have mercy on his soul.

Well, if you believe this man is someone "Lord" should have mercy for because he helped two of your uncles ... you have the right to but I could say in the same way: "My colleague Isidore is a saint as he paid me a coffee" :)

Someone like this man had power and money, if you want to improve what people are thinking about that man, please provide us with a more proper list of the wonderfull things this man achieved in his life.
Helping two men who were working for him ... a saint !

Someone giving what he doesn't need to people in need is just like most people, not someone generous. When you have 10 times what a normal man have and you give twice more, the normal man is the generous one, not the rich man.

Do not take me wrong, I generally give to people in need, but rarely something I'll need myself.

author by blaisepublication date Sat Apr 01, 2006 03:10author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Rosswel, he most definitely was a saint to the 2 uncles whose families he saved from poverty - 2 men who he was not beholding to for any political favours or such, and yes if you want to santify him, I'll agree, but I was only trying to show his heart - that he had one - despite what a lot of people think. Look around - you'll find good in the strangest places instead of always looking for the negative to remind yourself that you might be right. A little humility goes a long way. The people of Ireland voted him into office 3 times - now maybe you feel they are 3 times stupid - and you are welcome to your beliefs - but it's rare a man so little loved could ever be hired back 3 times by his own people. Give him credit for that alone, if you have nothing else positive to say about the man....

When that squireen who lived ,leeched and betrayed, and lied to my generation and the Irish people who were fools enough to vote him again again, and again .I will open a bottle of champane and dance on that bollocks grave!!
We obvisouly havent any rope or any trees around Kinseely manor where he and his corrupt family should have been strung up by their overstuffed necks along time ago.
A man who was involved off his own bat in arms running, and lauded a hero by Irish fools.
A man who was involved in bugging phones of journalists and his opposition.Even the crook Nixion had the decency to go after that in America.Haughy that bastard, stayed. He was applauded by more Irish fools.
While he was wining dining, and whoring with Terry Keane and his lackeys in power. He was telling my generation in the 80s to tighten our belts or fuck off to America or the UK to make money to bring back to his private estate of the Irish republic. While he used the AIB and the health services for his personal piggybank to pay for damaged yachts or islands or projects to add wind power his blasket island home,or buy race horses or live like an landlord of the kind in Irish history describes.Or support his sons toy helicopter company. And more Irish fools applauded and supported him.
Oh sure,he did "great things"like buy somones shopping and give old folks free travel and pensions, now not worth a tinkers curse anymore.
This parasite should be buried by his family they are filthy rich anyway, and can afford it ,not the Irish people. If there is a state funeral I hope the Irish people would have the decency to turn their backs on the hearse as it passes by.He deserves no better.May he join the ranks of other dictators in the darkest reigons of Hell.

Are you ranting on about now Blaise???What has Paisley got to do with Haughey?Apart from being just as much of a scoundrel.Which I belive George Bernard Shaw said about patriots, namely it being the last refuge of the scoundrel.
Not only that you just prove your Irish ignorance and republican bigtory in assuming I am a NI proddie.Do you have to learn to be such an ignoramus or does it just come naturally??

Nobody accused you of being a ' NI proddie' - but your attack on a true patriot who loves his country - would have been loved by Paisley - that's all I alluded to. You obviously have items with Charlie and we will get nowhere railing against each other's position - so let it rest. Leave George Bernard out of this equation. He's from another era and didn't like his home country much either. I do like some of his lines though, the most memorable to me when Shaw was travelling by train from London to Manchester a passenger beside him said 'Isn't the English countryside beautiful' to which GBS replied 'Yes it is - pity they don't know how to cook it.'

No! Dr Samuel Johnson said that patriotism is the last resort of scoundrels. He also said: "the Irish are a very fair people: they never speak well of each other".

CJ Haughey has been discharged from hospital.
There will be no blood sacrifice or dramatic death for this year's Easter Rising / Good Friday bollox.
But RTE has learnt that though Mr Haughey has recovered from pneumonia, ( & Thus is more susceptible to H5N1 bird flu' which has been ruled out of the suspicious Swan deaths on the Bann river yesterday) he has been suffering from prostrate cancer for the last few years.

Still..... you'd expect a personal intimate detail like that to get onto RTE news wouldn't you?
But they (for some reason) didn't stick it in the news-caster's mouth tonight.

great to hear that rumours of his demise have been greatly exagerated - another Easter with Charlie - no better man - count your eggs - blessed - no need for RTE to give intimate details of the Taoseach's personal medical condition - let each man suffer in privacy - nice of the broadcaster to avoid - best wishes to his family.... too much animosity in the world to get worked up - over something you didn't like about him in the past - there is good and bad in every man - character is what matters - and the man has character in spades..our three times Lazarus lives again....up for the bell...ready to battle again...

Hmmm, well I would consider a true patriot one who leads from the front, does his job within his capabilities, and within his wage packet, not lines his or his cronies pockets while in office. Is honest with the preople that elected him,and if he is caught with his pants down admits and resigns with good grace. If the people think he is so wonderful they will elect him back.
BTW he wasnt too hot on looking after the"comrades"up in NI either.Who signed the first extradition treaty with Thatcher and the UK???Hate to say it Maggie Thatcher was more patriotic than Haughey's little toe.
At least you knew where you stood with her on any issue.
All in all CJH just stands out in a long line of crooks, gombeen men, incompentants, general bogmen, plain village idiots, religious nutters, and other waste of space in the gene pool that have pouplated Dail Eireinn since the states foundation.Maybe one day we will actually get somone in there that is a true patriot, and is more concerned about the country and not big busisness, making money and other mundane shite.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RT%C3%89_News:_Nine_O'Clock only one liason being referred to as a rumour. The relationship between RTE (The irish state TV) News program and the regime has been a close one on more than one ocassion.
But Ireland is like that. Behind the Bong + Boing + of piety at the 6pm daily Angelus one minute call to prayer, there are dark secrets.....
Too dark to get on to an indymedia page.
But you can use your imagination.
In fact ireland is the sort of country that were it not for its peace process (and dinky music and dancing) would have the reputation for being so slimey and corrupt, it would most certainly not be the sort of place to send your kids to learn english or how to shoplift.

Overseas, tell me one county in the world which is not secretly or overtly linked with its major broadcaster, please, there are no examples, so what's the big deal. There is no secret. It's all quite normal and it's not about to change. Maybe on some far away independent island you might find some government run by a bunch of hippies where the national broadcaster operates a ham radio or something - there - maybe you would find no coersion between government and the media - but I would even doubt its success there. Believe me, nothing to get worked up about.

It turns out that Mr Haughey had no chance, his dodgey and defective genes probably damned him to suffer Prostate cancer. & according to the popular english "daily mail" he shares this predestination with many Africans, but of course most Africans don't live till over 80 so they don't really worry about it.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/health/h...=1774

the discovery made in Iceland, with whom under the FF/PD regime, Ireland has invested lots and lots of taxpayers money. Money well spent. We must now move to legislate to ensure that carriers of the Charles J Haughey gene be disallowed from breeding. We call that science and eugenics. Of course some of you will probably be against that. The very same people who don't think there is any problem with minister of health carrying the obesity-mental retardation-delayed puberty-macroorchidism-acanthosis nigricans-hyperinsulinemia syndrome gene and freely breeding with anyone and condeming their kids to a sofa-bound life of watching TV...

Leave the great man alone. You are welcome to your political beliefs but to talk that smut talk you talk is quite classless. Wake up little man - Charlie wouldn't have the time of day for you, nor should he. What kind of a little mind attacks an 80 year man who is in bad health, who has led our country 3 times, 3 times pal, 3 times the citizens of Ireland voted him in. Obviously that fact bothers you immensely, but that's the fact. Leave well enough alone. Your filtry diatribe goes well with that other blogger who wished to dance on his grave. you've got the great leader pocketing liver transplant fund money, causing poor oldfellas to die, and to boot, you wish Charlie dies in agony so you can dance on his grave, well if that's not inane childishness on your parts - then what is? Consider yourself lucky you have had a great character as Taoiseach thrice, otherwise you would have very little to rant about. By the way, Charlie did manage to raise the funds needed for Lenihan's liver transplant from the well healed Fianna Fail ranks - so what if the excess went into his trousers - what's the big deal? Didn't he raise the money for the transplant, nit picker? Maybe he needed a bit extra for the gun running episode. All mothers of large families have one son like him, and they love them, for their largesse and their character, which Charlie has in abundance, for better or for worse, like Ireland has loved him, despite the protestations herein.
