McDowell's late-night Indymedia prowling

category national | miscellaneous | other press author Sunday March 12, 2006 16:30author by Annie Shipsea Report this post to the editors

'Quotes of the week'

From today's Sunday Business Post:
(Michael McDowell to Green Party TD John Gormley in the Dail)

'I am not acquainted with the websites that Deputy Gormley stares at in the early hours of the morning, but one of them, www.Indymedia.ie, on this occasion produced footage from outside of the PD party offices being ransacked by a group of Deputy Gormley's type of people'

Its not worth responding to. john Gormley is a man of integrity who has worked hard for his voters. Mc Dowell makes noise and achieves nothing except the cronyism that he said he'd watch -dog. I point to the Startegic Infrastructure Bill
which does not include the Poolbeg incinerator. This was done at his behest. The bill will be amended on it's path through the Oireachtas to include gas pipe lines. Poolbeg was a bargaining tool .He vetoed the creation of a separate infrastructure board, because he imagines that his platform will be removed. he imagines that he is mandated to act against the incinerator, when in fact he displays a plain disregard for the voters in his constituency by displaying evidence of his inability to tackle issues of importance to the people of Ringsend, instead he saves his own seat.We are becoming inured to the mud -slinging and hypocrisy of his mandate. (A voter in his constituency).

PLease good people of Dun Laoighre remove this loathsome individual from the Dail at the next election. His ignorant rant towards John Gormley in the Dail was the just the latest in a long long of self-serving, bigoted, criminal accusations against anyone who dents his increasing egomania.

Mickey Mac is not running in Dun Laoghaire. Neither is John Gormless. Glad to see you're well up on Irish politics...

The indymedia comment is being discussed on Joe Duffy's LiveLine now (in context of Mickey's comments about Gormless) - Joe sez about Indymedia;

"Sure, I don't know who they are" - having read out stuff directly from indymedia.ie website about the riots 2 weeks ago - d'oh.

Who does McDowell think he is?
I'm no fan of the Greens but blaming one of their TDs for putting in his party's windows is crazy.
In the Dail he's like an overgrown schoolboy in a debating class.
Whatever about gun crime, he's outa control himself.!

Mr McDowell had the guts to stand up to the IRA when the Taoiseach was dithering. Every democracy needs a tough minister for justice.

Just a thought but has anyone considered that McDowell is just a nutter who got lucky in politics. His behaviour is becoming increasingly bizarre, demonstrated by his recent attack on the Greens who to the best of my knowledge have no military wing. If I were a Green I would stay well away from McDs holiday home in Roscommon just in case he tried a Dick Cheney with a shotgun out of his window.
It is rumoured that Mc D prowls Indymedia so that he can challenge the type of pinko liberal views expressed here on the airwaves. If you are out there Michael the bad news is that nobody believes you about the Greens.
PS If I do not post again on this site within the next month search the back garden of the holiday home in Roscommon

Putting the footage of people smashing the PD office was irresponsible. Feeding the Progressive D(?)(?)s infomation. It was an excellent achivement getting the footage up the same day but with a high cost.

a Voice.......

However, having a voice is one issue, having the ability to substantiate views and opinions in writing on the internet is another, and the level of deafness at Ministerial, Entreprenneurial, state sponsored bodies e.g. an Post, Com.Reg and companies like Eircom is another.

We have a Competition Authority but according to Eddie Hobbes, it is underfunded and I have to agree.

Builders, entreprenneurs, waste control people, appear to have endless endorsement to breach the Environmental Protection Agency comprehensive services.....

Then next year, we all are expected per EU directives to have Certificates stating compliance to legislation from Europe about how environmentarry friendly our houses/apartments are.......this is about another form of capitalist control of property markets I would suggest. Otherwise this would have been grafted into play in housing over the boom.

Then here we go again with the Construction industy and inequality in payment to certain labourers......what has changed since the 'Dead men' claimed for in the 1970's......I am sure someone will be able to fill us in on this...

What happened to accountability, Ethics, Integrity, the Learning curve......Greed and the profit motive sure appears to win all arguments on this score.

What about beware of the Vested Interest? What about 'Knowledge is no load......and then use it appropriately.

I live in D4 but having acquired multiple disabilities I seem to daily encounter something that invokes the Ireland I knew before I left for England and Zimbabwe and I become so disheartened as I see the so-called bouyant times remaining ghoulish in their corruptive , devious practices...... People are people....read the Justice Equality Law Reform booklet, that is the impression it bestows.

Yet, I ask what gives these jumped up entreprenneurs power to make 'rights on the spot to prop up their flagging self esteem and importance, its all part of a false vanity.

Two pubs in Dublin 4, I have been asked to leave. I don't drink, I was tired and it was afternoon. The foreign people who work in coffee shops like O'Briens and Insomnia are used to dogs and their acceptance in their own culture and thankfully don't show the ignorance of some of what I refer to as the new 'Landed Gentry' i.e. trade, pubs, businesses, builders........What a change a few decades have made......

A new, I'll call it an emporioum opened on Morehampton Road.....It is my experience and opinion achieving its subtle goal of intimadating the vulnerable, making people with phobias, fears, insecurities shy away from this opulent 'Harrods Food' store notion. The strange thing is I lived near Harrods and being Irish and not titled never felt intimidated. Ultimately tourism and inclusion meant business.

Now for Minister Roche, Environment.
When such a shop sought planning how is it that the Post Office is positioned within a supermarket and at the rear. Is there not legislation that post offices were open view to the publi?. Does anyone know any more about this. Also from Health and Safety purposes, if there was a post office raid, are there not more people - people not visiting the post office left vulnerable........Why the change. I believe that a new Emporioum of a similar nature is to open in Baggot Street....again the same story applies to the post office. Do people think anymore!

Surely the post office relates to the people of Ireland. In point of fact, the post office is the only safe place to hold money......banks can go broke..... People have a history associated with the Post Office with their weekly benefit cheques paid through there.......Who is overseeing this> Is it the competition Authbority or do they not have funds and hence the limbo that allows certain people to breach rules.

Fair dues to Bank of Scotland but then Phil Flynn, a man with financial insight, had the wisdom to put two and two together and make 4. Now we have Bank of Scotland who will be a competitive force for the leading banks. The ESB sold off part of their asset base, for probably a lot less than they should have.....but then I will go foi Bank of Scotland. I am particularly drawn this when I read the Sunday Times proposal by Chancellor Brown to work on a financial banking orientated level with Muslims....what a coup?...It could only come about with a Presbyterian ethos.....the bones of it is that the banks will comply with Islamic Koran Code of no interest.......

Back to the shop......the man who appeared to be owner....his ego anyway.......'No dogs'........I explained I just wanted to get a paper inside the door.....a gruff reply 'tie him up outside'. Does anyone hear that Jack Russell's tied up outside are often stolen and used for dog fighting......an others terrible things. Can we please halt ignorance to animals in Ireland.

Can please embrace the concept of 'Diversity in Unity' as per John Hume. Can we please realised in Japan dogs can be brought to board room meetings in the large companies to calm stress.

Crufts said it all. 6 categories of dogs were for people with disabilities ranging from sight, to muscular dystrophy; to hearing, to anxiety, to agoraphobia, to visits to old peoples homes and to psychiatric hospitals.

The new rulling class based on greed need to understand that we are all equal, they just have a dimension i.e. money/power as I have acquired brain injury.....

Indymedia, it should be read.....it is the voice of people and that doesn't mean you have to agree with them.....incidentally, I received a reply from Minister McDowell to this affect. and I really appreciated the comment. I never mind being wrong and with my condition its all about wrong perceptions and mis-takes.....

Good questions from Miriam.
Do you think you have particular type of style that is just not suited to Minister of Justice?

He says he does "conviction politics".

In his apology to that FG guy he used the phrase 'I played the man not the ball' a variation of which was debated recently on indymedia. Normallly you only see the phrase 'Play the ball and not the player' at the top of the page when you are posting a comment - is McDowell a commentator here - if so which one?

It was interesting that in last nights interview that he said indymedia.ie three times because Miram kept interrupting him. Reading about Joe Duffy's new found ignorance above I wonder if this was a wind up of RTS as Joe was fully aware of what indymedia was a couple or years back. Is McDowell aware of some sort of direction to avoid mentioning this rival news outlet?

author by kevinpublication date Wed Mar 22, 2006 18:31author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I missed last night's prime time and cant install real player on this PC. Would like to know what McDowell is on about this time... I suppose Indymedia will soon be categorised as a subversive/terrorist organisation and we'll have our servers seized (watch this space).

I see we're also mentioned on the front of the Indo today. Infamy at last.

At this stage of his career Joe Duffy knows exactly what Indymedia is but always dumbs down his comments or knowledge of it. Not sure what the reasoning behind this is, but it always happens. I wouldnt care at all except for so many people listen to his bleedin BRUTAL radio show.

Anyone catch that oh-so-heartbreaking plethora of stories in the past few weeks of parents ringing up, saying they'd been ripped off by a modelling agency that demanded over the odds for putting their kids up in hotels in New York for fashion shows? The parents were pissed off (yet loads of them had paid up). I mean, come on... for fucks sake. Does anyone have any sympathy for these parents? Why is this being afforded hours of airtime?

Does anyone have sympathy for the 'victims' of pyramid schemes?

And so on...

1. 'Anarchist/Indymedia Type people' did in the PD office - evidence the video onsite - hoods etc - tells people to look if interested
2. Greens are (friends of at least) Indymedia Type people
3. Video is on indymedia if anyone wants to see - he repeated this I think - I'll try to make an mp3
4. Indymedia Type people are anti war / bush / rts / mayday people - like the green people

above is paraphrase

**********************************

It was strange - he basically said again what he withdrew earlier somewhat snickeringly in relation to 'greens office indymedia sandals museli' in the dail but tilted it more at indymedia type people than green type people - now the greens are just friends of the assorted youth who did in the office

so now who has he accused in space of a few weeks - dissident republicans - thugs - shinners - greens - thru indymedia reference pretty much the whole anti-war left - ever shifting enemies everywhere.

I find it all really peculiar myself

he blames the messengers for bad news that's for sure wether it's daily ireland, frank connolly or indymedia head with a video camera and that's not healthy - he used to stand up for Frank McDonald at time of publication of Destruction of Dublin when a lawman - I think that 'free speech' crack has gone out window with him

maybe he is staying up too late at night reading iosafs election divinations on indymedia and scrambling his brainz?

he does sound shook up whatever is going on.
