Catholic Hospitals Price-Gouging the Uninsured

Its good to see that the spirit of Christ is alive and well in the US Catholic Church. These are the same goons who are trying to avoid claims from abuse victims and are refusing the sacrements to Pro-Choice politicians.

Catholic Hospitals Price-Gouging the Uninsured, Consejo de Latinos Unidos Says, USA
29 Nov 2005

Catholic not-for-profit hospitals are reaping high profits while charging uninsured patients up to seven times as much as those covered by Medicare, according to a report by Consejo de Latinos Unidos, the Denver Post reports.

The report, which is based on annual tax returns filed by seven large Catholic health systems, found that net income at the hospitals doubled between 2003 and 2004. The hospital systems also have amassed $20 billion in cash and investments. For example, Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives reported revenues of $5.9 billion during the first nine months of fiscal year 2005, an increase of 5.6% from the same period last year. In addition, CHI's investment income increased to $203.4 million, compared with an $80 million loss in 2003. Revenues increased 10.5% to $7.4 billion in FY 2004.

Catholic Healthcare West, which has $3 billion in nontaxable assets, made $249 million in tax-free profits in 2004, according to the report.

What's new?

They left our hospitals in a mess; they profitted from the Reformatory and Industrial Schools; they own 3 to 4 thousand primary schools (we haven't quite counted them all yet) and they squeeze the lot of us for their ownership of them, their management of them, their advices about them, and the free labour force they recruit from them to man the stations of the empire ; they manage all the 'sciences' with ex-priests, ex-nuns and penitent immigres; they recruit Bertie and Michael McDowell, when threatened, to bring in the line of second defence, the lawyers to control the supply of wealth to their Irish and international coffers; they transplant 100,000 Poles lest the Irish , like the Protestants , cop on to the best business in the world; they police the State from within and without with God's Workers, Opus Dei -- Bankers to rob us; politicoes to convince us of the merits of the Christian Nation; the Civil Service to liaise between Minister and Bishop; the courts and judges to dole out Chruch/State arrangements -- Wasn't this what Josemaria Escriva wanted to set up around the world? The new Catholic Saint is a Robber Baron! The new materialists of the Catholic Church are the most privileged businessmen in the world. They work government without as much as a vote, without presenting their policies to the people, without as much as marrying the people and the eternal cry for more and more money -- all that massive international wealth and not one baby in the whole house to be looked after!

You could put it to music! Or has Bono and Bob already done that?

It is a rather curious thing that everyone who advised the Bishops or the Fianna Fail Ministers winds up a Judge! I wonder why that is ? Rumour has it that the next real scandal willl emerge from the millions given to Irish and world-wide charities: rumour has it that someone is actually going to ask where it went and why some five thousand or so charities, mostly Catholic, have never been registered. Rumour has it that the Church's lawyers forgot about it!

Can anyone please calculate how much of the Republic of Ireland (Quel Republique !) the RC Church owns.
