What time is the benifit and waht type?

author by SHpublication date Fri Sep 23, 2005 12:00author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Could someone please explain why this WSM branch is called the 1st of May branch? I understand the symbolism of may day and the important and indeed vital contribution of anarchists to the day, but I dont understand the desire to call a branch after a day. It would be like a Labour party brach calling itself 1st of April branch because of the contribution that the Irish labour party has made to fools in Ireland.

It's going to be a pub quiz. Time not verified but I think around 8.30/9pm. I understand that a flyer is been done up so will be here in due course. Thanks to the WSM for their ongoing solidarity as we journey back through the Four Courts.

Other events prior to the Pitstop Ploughshares retrial in Dublin's Four Courts from Oct. 24th can be followed at the link below.

It's not going to be a quiz, it'll be a night of music and chat along the lines of the 'Anarchy Nite Cafe' held during the summer, kicking off about 8:30/9:00pm, the purpose being to show both financial and moral solidarity with the Pitstop Ploughshare defendants as they face into their re-trial.

Thats great so there will be two nights, a pub quiz and a music night? That makes the story twice as good as it initially was!

Sometimes they are Catholic Worker sometimes Ploghshares - why?

author by Damien - psp/dcwpublication date Thu Oct 06, 2005 14:47author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The Catholic Worker was started in 1933 by Dorthy Day and Peter Maurin setting up houses of hospitality for the homeless, non-violently resisting war, living in community. About 200 houses exist throughout the US. Some in Germany, Britain, Holland, Australia, Canada too.

The Ploughshares Movement was initiated on Sept. 8th 1980 by the Berrigan brothers, Phil and Dan, alongside other activists who disarmed Mark 12-A nuclear missile cones in an attempt to enflesh the prohecy of Isaiah and Micah, 'to beat swords into ploughshares and study war no more'.

Many Ploughshares actions over the past 25 years (about 80) have involved people connected to the Catholic Worker Movement.

For more information on the Ploughshares movement go to
www.plowsharesactions.org

For more information on Dublin Catholic Worker go to www.geocities.com/dublincatholicworker

All five activists on trial, the Pitstop Ploughshares, are connected to the Catholic Worker Movement.

I understand that only three of the five are actually Catholics!!!

It's so confusing.

author by ?????publication date Fri Oct 07, 2005 12:08author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Does it really matter what their religion is? Do you initially meet people the say ' hey what's your religeon? '

What matters here is that there is five activists on trial soon for trying to stop Genocide. Literally [sic] happening via Shannon Airport with the Governments knowledge!

Forget the bitchin, the name confusion and look at the issues here. These people have been awaiting trial for nearly three years.

THATS THREE YEARS OF THEIR LIVES!

Who cares what they call themselves. Whether they dress in sackcloth or silk has no relevance. their action says it all. If more people defended our neutrality in this way then all that crap at Shannon would have stopped by now!
Who's country is it after all?
