Swathes of rainforest and coral reefs are being destroyed by a nickel mining boom in Indonesia sparked by the Net Zero race to transition away from fossil fuels. Is this supposed to be 'green'?

The energy is gathering pace!

Are you up for the challenge?

Need to loose a few pounds?

Join a world movement for peace this August - the architects of war must not be allowed to continue their path of destruction and greed!

Join in the 3-day fast in a public space in Cork City from 8:15 on Saturday 6 August 2005 to 11:02 on Tuesday 9 August 2005.

The plan is:
At 08:15 on Saturday, 6 August local people will gather at Fitzgerald’s Park with an opening ceremony to reflect on the beauty of the world that is being destroyed by humankind, to pray for the dead of all wars, to witness against the wars that are being conducted in the name of peace, and to raise awareness of nuclear weapons, their consequences and Ireland’s role in supporting their continued existence. Then there will be a slow procession to the City Centre where a water fast will take place for 74 hours 47 minutes – the time taken between the two terrible acts of aggression by the USA on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 60 years ago this year.

There will be various peaceful activities taking place during the fast, such as the making of paper cranes, singing, poetry reading, circle dancing.

The fast will end by joining with the ‘World Culture of Peace Day’ event, also in Cork, being organised by Pax Christi on Tuesday, 9 August.

This is part of a world-wide campaign, with groups in several countries around the world taking part, notably in Los Alamos, New Mexico where the first of many nuclear weapons was built. See http://fatherjohndear.org/articles/alamos.htm

Note: while New Mexico holds America’s biggest cache of nuclear weapons and the USA has a yearly military budget of more than $500 billion, the children in that state are poorer than in the whole of the USA (27:17).

Please let us know if you wish to join in, for as long or as short a time as you are able. We look forward to hearing from you - wheather you're an 'old hand' at peacekeeping action or a complete newbie!

yours in peace
