?Offensive? Christmas Songs Could Fall Victim to Labour?s Banter Ban Sun Dec 21, 2025 11:14 | Jonathan Barr
Festive revellers may have to be careful which tunes they pick for a Christmas sing-along down at the pub, as songs like ?Baby It?s Cold Outside?, ?Do They Know It?s Christmas??, and ?Jingle Bells? might offend the staff.

Podcasts are Making Us More Isolated Than Ever Sun Dec 21, 2025 09:00 | Joanna Gray
Podcasts are great. But by leading us to spend our time wearing headphones listening to others chat, they're leaving us more isolated than ever, says Joanna Gray. What we need are podcasts that bring us together.

The Resilience of the Church of Climate Sun Dec 21, 2025 07:00 | Tilak Doshi
Rumours of the demise of Net Zero are premature, says Dr Tilak Doshi. The Church of Climate has suffered a grievous blow, but the faithful remain resolute and poised to revive should political winds blow favourably.

The RAF aircrafts and their dedicated crews, are particularly welcome as they carry on an honourable progression from those people and aircrafts in the early '40's who made sure that none of us would be forced to learn German.
Was haben Sie gegen Deutsch?
I wonder if there were Mig-23s (Russian) and Mirage F-1s (French) of the Iraqi Air Force appearing would these moaners have a problem?
The Jaguar is no longer deployed in Iraq: http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/deplex.html#iraq.
The Jaguar was one of main enforcers of the peace in the former Yugoslavia:
http://www.britains-smallwars.com/Bosnia/bosnia-units.html#raf . Many people were delighted to see those aircraft.
Similarly, the Tornados have not been used in anger in Iraq other than against military targets while Saddam was in power. Far from the indiscriminate use of cluster bombs, it fact the deployment was the first time that Tornados used Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles.
It strikes me that the only people politicizing the airshow are the usual suspects. It's because of planes like these that many people are free..
I attended a similar action two years ago at Salthill and it just so happened to be the same day as the Galway versus Mayo Connacht Final.
Thus there was over 100,000 people in Salthill that day.
The protest numbered about 100 people and as we marched along the promenade beneath the scream of jet engines the abuse we received from the folk lining the streets was incredible and sad.
This airshow celebrates military might and ruthless agression and normailises it to many of the young in attendance.
One particular Father told us to :shut the fuck up" and to "stop ruining his fucking kid's day" as his young son say atop his shoulders.
Some of these aircraft are returning from active duty where they have slaughtered hundreds of innocent men.women and children, not unlike those who lined the streets with such insults that day.
Good luck to the protesters and the action and I hope to see you all afterwards at Gleneagles.

If you'd bothered to look up the website for the airshow (http://www.salthillairshow.com/), you'd see that the Tornado version is the F.3 - an air defence version that never dropped bombs on anyone. It also never shot anything down in any conmflict with Iraq, so claims that it killed Iraqis are incorrect. Same for the Jaguar - not currently deployed in Iraq. Like the other stupid posting on this site about killer ships in Cork (Pakistan in Nato?), the accuracy and claims made by the "usual suspects" is a mile wide of the mark.
The Torndao F3 helped defend the West againt Soviet attack during the Cold War, and Irish people should be grateful for the freedoms that they now enjoy. And judging by the vote in accepting former Soviet satellites into the EU, they are. Of course, there are those who would have gladly seen Backfire bombers from the Soviet Navy in action in the Irish Sea, but then, there are fools everywhere.
Even if these aircraft were deployed to Iraq, I fail to see the problem with watching these wonderful aircraft at an Irish airshow. Please don't ruin this air show for families and children with your politics, shouting and your pictures of Iraqi dead. We all know you lot, the Ed Horgans of this world, are a sad group, and have a hidden agenda anyway (anti-US, anti-British). I suppose you would want to ban Airfix models of the Tornado and Jaguar next...
"Peole die from drink related problems bet your not calling for drink or cannabis to be banned at the air show."
Nearly thinking of going now. Didn't know you could get cannabis at the air show. Hope its good shit, man.

Here is a great picture from last years airshow - fair play...here's hoping for more of the same this year.
"RAF joins US forces in Iraq assault" - Guardian 20th June 2005 - page 15.
And guess what those gentlemen from the RAF are flying - TORNADOS. The whole point of flying warplanes at these air shows is to sanitise and glorify these killing machines.
it's alright, there will be plenty of the sound of freedom, the smell of JP, and the sight of beautiful aircrafts over Salthill.
We will not need you clowns with your stupid 'die in' forceing your kids to fall on the ground as unarmed and unarmable aircrafts of the Red Arrows pass overhead.
But I will laugh if I see you gobshites go thru' your silly act.
But if a 100,000 people say 'sod off', I would leave if I were you.
If you'd bothered to read the report closely, you'd have discovered that the Tornados in this question wer Gr4's - and not the F3s appearing at Galway. Plus, they didn't shoot anyone...
The Tornados, armed with the RAF's latest Storm Shadow cruise missiles, flew several sorties from their base in the Gulf to provide close air support but did not bomb any targets, according to Wing Commander Gerard Bland, a spokesman for British military forces in Iraq. "They fired nothing," he said.
Neither the Jaguar nor the Tornado are symbols of British military might as claimed. The Jaguar is an Anglo-French aircraft, and the Tornado is tri-national - Italy, German and British origin.
why are ye doing this ye are ruining peoples hobbies grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
