Tommy Robinson's "Uniting the Kingdom" march in July was widely condemned as "far Right". But 'nice Jewish girl' Jacqui Smith went on along because of its stand against antisemitism and found it anything but.

Organising the Irish Barrio/ Climate Action at the G8

category national | anti-capitalism | event notice author Wednesday May 25, 2005 14:55author by Dissenter - DissentIreland Report this post to the editors

Open to all

Teachers club 7.00pm wed 1st june

This is a public meeting open to all those interested in participating in protests around the time of G8 meetings. It is organized as part of the Dissent network, a broad band of groups and individuals across Europe, determined to resist the G8 meeting and equally determined to make the organizing and participation of this resistance as democratic, and transparent as possible. This is not about summit hopping, or campaign hopping for that matter either. It is about building sustainable links with all those choosing to get involved beyond the limiting weight of party politics, long after the military barricades that our ‘leaders’ hide behind have been removed from Gleneagles only to be erected again somewhere else, as they continue to consolidate power based upon the exploitation of people and the very planet we live on.

The purpose of this meeting is to give feedback from the Dissent meeting in Nottingham, giving as much information to those going to Scotland to resist the G8, so that informed choices can be made. It is also about getting ourselves organized as much as possible beforehand.
Someone from the UK will be coming over to talk about the Climate actions happening around the G8, and also about the workings and needs of the Convergence Space in Scotland

Topics of discussion will include but not limited too

Climate Actions Actions highlighting the hypocrisy of the G8 leaders words on climate change and how to get involved on planning and participating in them

Rural convergence space Home to up to 20,000 folks (with potential for 100,000), so how this space is organized is crucial. The idea ( in order to facilitate both the logistical needs and practical decision making/discussion of such large numbers) is to create barrios or neighbourhoods based around kitchens. In some cases these will be based on geographical groups eg. An irish barrio, or existing social centers ‘relocating’ to the space or even on particular themes eg women barrio . It is intended that these barrios will be as self sufficient as possible, hopefully providing their own entertainment and cultural events, creating a real network at the convergence.

Safe Space Policy and Physical safe spaces

Kitchens hey we all need food and it is the around the kitchens that the Convergence space will be formed.

Action Planning about the range of actions planned by various groups

Decision making and Process How do we organize non hierarchically and democratically with such large numbers…No Leaders Needed.. come and find out and get involved

All this and much more so come along get involved in organizing, reclaiming our lives proactively, where the process is as important as the end.
