How they forged the case against Galloway

The central document used against George Galloway this week by the senate committee in Washington is a forgery — evidence crucial to the alleged case against the Respect MP is a fake, created after the fall of Baghdad in 2003

» A forger gives his account

“I’d like to indicate here that it was us who made — that is to say we forged — this list of names and titles of people who got money from the ministry of information, the palace and the Oil for Food programme”

» The Mariam Appeal

This has already been thoroughly instigated, and given a financial clean bill of health

» Who is Norm Coleman?

“God bless America is a prayer, and I believe that George Bush is God’s answer to that prayer” — that was the welcome Bush received in 2002 from Republican Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota

» Evidence from the torture chambers

The alleged evidence against George Galloway, apart from that based on Duelfer’s dodgy dossier, is mainly statements from former Iraqi regime officials

» George Galloway’s view

“Senator, it’s a pity that we are having this interview after you have found me guilty — even in Franz Kafka’s novels there was the semblance of a trial”

» A history of smears and lies

The intelligence services have used forgeries and concocted evidence time after time to discredit people and governments

» Sanctions and the oil for food programme

All the allegations against George Galloway relate to the Oil for Food programme, but the vast bulk of the coverage has ignored the sanctions regime to which they were linked

''...the Senate report found that US oil purchases accounted for 52% of the kickbacks paid to the regime in return for sales of cheap oil - more than the rest of the world put together.

"The United States was not only aware of Iraqi oil sales which violated UN sanctions and provided the bulk of the illicit money Saddam Hussein obtained from circumventing UN sanctions," the report said. "On occasion, the United States actually facilitated the illicit oil sales." ''

I don't think Galloway is a pompous idiot, but even if he were, that would not justify sitting back and letting a kangaroo court pass off without condemnation. Perhaps if those of us who fall into the 'left' camp would stand by one another more in spite of our denominational differences we might constitute a force to be reckoned with.
