Did Keir Starmer's speech blaming 'far-Right' outsiders for organising the unrest in Southport and singling out the threat they posed to Muslims contribute to the violence by Asian counter-protestors that followed.

Tommy Robinson's "Uniting the Kingdom" march in July was widely condemned as "far Right". But 'nice Jewish girl' Jacqui Fisher went on along because of its stand against antisemitism and found it anything but.

Organised by the SWP, a social for Saturday for the GAMA workers was decided to be organised.

Held a meeting in dun laoghaire a week ago addressed by GAMA striker and a Congolese activist. Meeting was well attended and took a couple of decisions by consenus. One was to picket the GAMA headquarters in Dun Laoghaoire- that fell as GAMA moved out of Dun laoghire to Santry in athe last couple of weeks doh!. Second was to organise a social and fundraiser involving all who were there and hopefully a few more to introduce the GAMA people we know to more people in the community. Its nothing fancy or major just a few local musicians and a few sandwiches and a bit of craic.

And there was me thinking that the SP had an international patent on Gama solidarity.

To most of the people out there it would have been simplex.

author by Mark Ppublication date Thu May 05, 2005 19:28author address author phone Report this post to the editors

but I really don't get your point.

More of these "consensus votes" at SWP meetings to legitimise undemocratic manouevres. It looks like the SWP are trying to take over the GAMA strike even though they've done nothing whatsoever in the strike. The Union bureaucrats have done more than the SWP!

author by Mark Ppublication date Thu May 05, 2005 20:19author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Ease up on the paranoia! How exactly does organising a small social event constitute "trying to take over the strike"? That just makes no sense at all.

That said, if the SWP were serious about helping then turning up to the pickets as all supporters were requested to do at Mayday would have done a lot more good than organising a piss up.
