From handing over the Chagos Islands to compensating Gerry Adams, Starmer's decisions owe more to human rights lawyers than sound politics. He needs to sack his chum Lord Hermer before he shipwrecks his Government.

One figure that has been repeatedly cited in the grooming gangs debate is that 1 in 73 Muslim men in the town of Rotherham has been prosecuted for grooming gang offences. However, this figure is slightly misleading.

Camp against Star Wars!

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Friday December 03, 2004 16:10author by karen fallon Report this post to the editors

NORWAY ANYONE?

Camp against Star Wars!
International action camp against the US surveillance base in Fauske, Norway 17th - 21st June 2005 (after the G8!)
(This call out is forwarded from petter , a trident ploughshares pledger and activist)

don't miss this camp in Norway next summer. It's like menwith hill, but with lower fences and midnight sun, fjords, mountains and forests.

Camp against Star Wars!
International action camp against the US surveillance base in Fauske, Norway 17th - 21st June

The surveillance base in Fauske, northern Norway, has been directly involved in the Falklands war, the Gulf war and the latest war on Iraq. In 1991 George Bush personally handed over a diploma to the base for their
role in the Gulf war.
The communication base in Fauske is run by the USA, and collects information from satellites. This information is passed on to the US Space Command, and from there it is forwarded to US troops all over the world.

In one of its documents, US Space command presents its aims as follows:

- Dominating the space dimension of military
operations to protect US national interests and investment.
- Integrating Space Forces into warfighting
capabilities across the full spectrum of conflict.

In September 2004 the first parts of the US Missile Defense were constructed in Alaska. Missile Defense aims to detect hostile missiles and shoot them down in space. There are also plans for satellites armed with
nuclear and laser weapons. What seemed like science fiction when Ronald Reagan was president is now feasible with the latest technology.
The militarisation of space is dependent on an international network of radar and communication bases in which Fauske plays an important role.

From 17th to 21st June 2005, “Norwegian Youth against nuclear weapons” and “Ofog – for a nuclear free world” from Sweden invite you to an international disarmament camp in Fauske. By using nonviolent direct action we
can stop the Fauske base and stand in the way of US military domination!
Come and join us in nonviolent direct action against the Fauske base, or come and give essential support without risking arrest. The vital thing is to be there.
Food and accommodation will be provided at a low cost, and transport by coach will be organised from Finland, Sweden and throughout Norway. If you live outside the
Nordic countries, please contact the organisers, and we will try to put you in touch with a group from your country.
More information about practicalities will be
available later.

For more information, please contact Ofog:

Because we can’t go to war and win without space, weneed to treat Space Superiority with the utmostconcern.
Gen. Lance W. Lord, Commander, US Air Force SpaceCommand 2004
