There's a climate emergency, so cough up, say insurers. It hasn't stopped them raking in billions, notes Chris Morrison. And no wonder: weather losses are actually down compared to 35 years ago. Time for a bit of honesty?

the return of George Soros.

category international | politics / elections | other press author Wednesday September 29, 2004 16:06author by iosaf Report this post to the editors

one of the 500 billionaires, Soros describes himself as a philanthropist.

He survived the Holocaust, his family didn't.
He went on to be one of the richest people alive, and as a maverick philanthropist began to fund "liberty" and "democracy" and "open government campaigns" the world over.

Most who know of Soros have an opinion on him. Yesterday he very forcefully entered the current US presidential election campaign not only by pledging "a lot of money" to topple Bush, but also by claiming "a lot of air-time".

Many US media observers were a bit shocked by the force of his attack.

Fox TV was alone amongst the cable channels last night in not giving Soros an interview, preferring to focus on this year's celebrity murder mystery which is still getting through the admisable evidence stage. Fox TV has strong links to the Bush dynasty and is attributed with the psychological deathblow to Al Gore's presidency when it infamously "called Florida for Bush".

Soros (very basically) has said-

the Iraqi war has endangered the West and the USA and was a mistake and is a failure.

The Bush team (under his authority) have systematically lied to the US and other publics on the causes of the Iraqi war.

The Bush team manipulated the wholescale fear caused by 911 to justify a war which only suited private business interests associated with their own backers and coffers.

He's also promoting his new book-
"The Bubble of American Supremacy".

Today the Soros team (and a billionaire always has a team) began the largest pamphlet drop in national american history to convince republican voters that they have been betrayed.

Friday at 02h30 CET = 01h30 GMT
there will be the first of the live televised debates between Bush and Kerry.
