It's not CO2 that drives the climate, says astrophysicist Dr Henrik Svensmark. Its the Sun and cosmic rays. But you won't hear about this because only one viewpoint is now allowed in the pseudo-science of climate.

'Global Day of Action on Waste Against Incineration' it seems to be

Protest highlights human health impacts of waste and pollution
An international coalition of activists today launched the 3rd Global Day of Action on Waste (GDAW) citing the increasing health impacts of polluting waste disposal practices which affect mainly children throughout the world.

Voice of Irish Concern for the Environment (VOICE) has called a public demonstration on Saturday 4th September in Dublin. The protest march from Parnell Square to Dail Eireann will include waste campaigners, communities and anti incineration groups from 10 counties throughout Ireland.
Globally, more than 185 groups from 39 countries will participate this year in what has become an annual day of protest against unsustainable and dangerous waste disposal systems. Coordinated by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA), this year's protest highlighted recent evidence from the World Health Organization which indicates that more than 3 million children under the age of five are dying each year because of polluted air and water and exposure to other environmental hazards.

Will St. Leger, VOICE spokesperson says, "The government must move away from incineration plans and move industry toward waste prevention, minimisation and reduction. Householders must get kerbside collection of recycling and composting as a baseline service."

Incinerators are linked to serious environmental health threats. Incineration alone is responsible for 69 percent of global emissions of the notorious pollutant dioxin, which is linked to cancer, immune, and reproductive system disorders, birth defects, and other health threats. Incineration is also a primary source of mercury, a potent neurotoxin, which builds up in the environment - especially aquatic ecosystems- and affects the brain, spinal cord, kidneys and liver. It is especially harmful to pregnant women and children.

In addition to the immediate pollution they create, incinerators and landfills also perpetuate wasteful and unsustainable production and consumption systems. Incinerators destroy resources, which would be better conserved for future use given the increasing pressure to harvest finite natural resources.

Will is of fine Greenpeace UK stock, and is doing a brilliant job getting local Irish anti incinerator and anti super dump groups to cooperate, and hopefully other Irish environmental NGOs to come out into the streets again.

Morag Balfer, who was arrested the other day for an anti-trident action at Faslane, once said to me "'consultation' [also called 'partnership'] is the opiate of the NGOs". Comhar is a scam. NGO Core Funding is a trap. The High Court is hopeless. The only thing left is people power.
