LADYFEST DUBLIN 2004
Ladyfest spotlights women.
Ladyfest Dublin is a non-profit, DIY festival, organised and
orchestrated by women, and supported by our friends of all genders.
Ladyfest is dedicated to providing a creative and inclusive environment
for performance, exhibition, and appreciation of women’s contributions
to music and the arts. The fest will attract participants, performers
and attendees from all over Ireland and Europe (and a few from further
afield), all eager to contribute to and benefit from its positive and
creative atmosphere.
Ladyfest is more than a weekend.
Ladyfest Dublin is more than just a festival, it is part of a burgeoning
tradition that is redefining female empowerment through the arts. Since
the first Ladyfest was held in Olympia, Washington, USA in 2000, more
than 40 of the festivals have taken place around the world. While the
ethos of all of these has been to celebrate and support women in
creative fields and to educate ourselves and each other, and while
organisers worldwide look to each other for ideas and support, no two
Ladyfests have been the same. The planning structure for the event is
meant to encourage collaboration and cooperation in order to create a
Ladyfest that reflects the diverse visions of all of its organisers and
participants.
The organisation funds itself through benefit events and small donations
from individuals, small businesses and groups. We aim to raise monies
over and above the cost of the event in order to keep ticket prices low
and the festival accessible to as many people as possible. We run
regular fundraisers including table quizzes, flea markets, scavenger
hunts, Bingo nights, and benefit gigs, all of which also reinforce what
Ladyfest is about: bringing people of all genders together to appreciate
what we make and do.
Ladyfest isn’t just about the sisterhood.
Ladyfest is about music. Ladyfest is about art. Ladyfest is about
revelry. Ladyfest is about all of us. Ladyfest can empower everyone.
