ABOUT D.A.T.A.:
Dublin Art and Technology Association
D.A.T.A. Group
The Dublin Art and Technology Association (DATA) is a group formed with
the intention of promoting, exploring, discussing, and exhibiting art
and technology in Ireland and the world

FUSPEY is about trying to explore and play with emerging tek.
blur lines between
art/political/cultural/social.

if we really start to explore, invent, create, play...
things will change
we are only at the start of this stuff
lots of art is meaningless today- has no reason= bolix
lots of good emerging political thinking- new directions and processes- social forum and indymedia being perhaps the most important that ARE changing things

how can we do more
why arent we doing more

"global indymedia network project for world social forum in jan 2004"
was an example of what we could be doing- but dident- maybe we will soon?
this point was brought up at the IMC ie tek meeting a few weeks ago- some felt that there is no point in trying to set up webstreams or webconferencing- as people wont be into them

that then is the key- to make things exciting and open- so that they do want to get involved
thats where the art bit comes in
so polit heads- it would be great to get more on

philip albert, i think thats his name- editor of z mag, made a very good point last year in england
"so why arent we effective, winning?"
one main point was- people fighting the good fight just for the sake of it- not because they were convinced that they could and would succeed- but that they would never succeed but that it was the right or honourable thing to do.

so why dont we continue to change and rules of the game- we are already doing that- but only a tiny bit-
be more creative- use whats there
all the tools are there

ie- world social forum in a few years, every city has art gallerys connected together as a global network community- not everyone can get to india for the WSF but we can go to our local NODE and still interact- from that more physical stuff happens in that local node in conjunction with WSF
ie- global reclaim the streets parties ( as has already happened)

this is the simple bottom line- we dont have to physically be somewhere to still interact- communities are forming on new ties. and with that we are living differently

where does "our" part come in- asking the question of "what way do we want to live" a healthy, diverse, open, growing, evolving ongoing, exploration of this question with little results coming from it, all the time

your views on this most appreciated
