the epilogue as it were, being a short addition to the aforepositioned list of links on the recent electricity blackout, water shortages, observed metereological phenomona, the newly coined term of US english "power outage", the yanky gift of rudeness, and what exactly may be in Cleveland....

(as in the best of the conspiracy options)

1. They tried to make rain. Using theoretical principles which are fifty years old, most of the specialists in this area of research go off record and return to record in the spooky end of the long island officially closed US military facility of Montauk and well you don't get sillier than that.(this is my theory if anyone goes out and writes the movie script I'll sue them GRRRRRR).

2. They tried to make another hole in the space time continuum. (this would use the same technology and require the same level of power as making rain but sounds way sillier like "as if", curiously the application of quantum physics priniciples that fuel the "making rain" theories are sort of similar). [I think it unlikely]

3. The Chinese did it. [hence my choice of photograph].

4. Osama did it. [no-one has blamed him, and the first gloating came from arabnews services!]

5. The Canadians did it. [ask Daithi, not as unlikely as you'd think]

6. They had to black out New England to make it visible from space for the visitors who were using the leonid meteorite shower as cover. [I have the rights on that script too. grrrrr!]

7. It didn't really happen. It was an example of mass hysteria and media manipulation, as we know Manhatten has many builings with their own generators, these switch on as soon as national grid goes off, thus you wouldn't ever get the "NYC" in shadow photo opportunity. Also Manhatten uses an alternating current, using tippy top range photography equipment it is possible to capture that moment mid "hertz cycle" when the lights are on but not shining!!!!

some other articles from the serious media on the "power outtage". I maintain that there really is a great effin clue in that neologism.

¿Why was it not just a black out?
¿why invent a new term for what then is uniformly being reffered to in newspapers of broadsheet seriousness both sides of the Atlantic as "phenomonal"?

Unlike Mr O' as if, I will not speculate on such little understood scientific advances such as scalar quadrilateral electromagnetic holes being made at 04h11 EST on the 13th of August 2003.
I shall merely list the facts for the discerning reader of indymedia ireland to ponder:

1. 3 states of the USA and one province of Canada were left without useable electricity supply for a period ranging from six hours to 32 hours.

2. 30 million people were effected.

3. It was the largest and most serious disruption of electricity supply in the history of man's use of that phenomona. [¿do you know how electricity works?]

4. It was termed a "power outtage" by the authorities not a "black-out". We normally witness 16 "Power outtages" a year, 12 of which are explained in NorthAmerica, Europe and Japan as being the result of scientific research. "Power outtage" has not been used before to explain non functionality of either a city or state electricity grid.

5. There are numerous city and state grids which were effected, it has never been publicised that these grids were inter-dependent, thus there is no reason to theorise that electricity supply in Ottawa Canada could be co-dependent on electricity supply in Cleveland Ohio and so NYC.

6. There was no metereological conditions reported on Aug 12th that could precede a lighting strike (the original explanation).

7. There was no unusual seismic activity in the New England/Eastern Canadian region.

8. There was solar flare activity a C class wave.

9. There was unusual metereotic activity the Leonids came in "wish wish upon a star".

10. Revealations/Nostradamus/the Mayans/my psychic aunty Mabel said it would happen, the USA is fucked and it was most certainly a sign from God [sorry wrong character]

11. "The loss of power" or rather "the non-functionality of power" was observed to effect the region phenomenally. That means that the "cascade" effect which is being used to justify "co-dependency system collapse" as well as being "99.9% unlikely -NYC eletricity technicians" is a lie. It did not "cascade".

12. read
http://nyc.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=69547&group=webcast
ask yourself if power stopped being functional in Dublin, Cardiff, London and Le Harve would you think it suspicious?

NYC opted for believing Bush that the cuts had been caused by an "old system". unlike south america, there has been no rush on household generators nor shortages of candles at the local K-mart. Conspiracy theorists have focussed on the higher than normal presence of "RF" in the background chatter of chatrooms, newspaper worries and the like.

Blackout Report Cites Midwest Collapse
Fri September 12, 2003 03:16 PM ET
By Chris Baltimore
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Canadian-U.S. investigators cited a collapse of electric voltage on the transmission grid in northern Ohio and eastern Michigan as a possible contributor to the Aug. 14 blackout that rippled across eight U.S. states and Ontario.

However, the initial chronology of the blackout, released by the Department of Energy, said it did not indicate any "fault or culpability" for which utilities or grid groups triggered the event.

The chronology begins with grid outages that began at 12:05 p.m. EDT on Aug. 14, about four hours before the blackout left 50 million North Americans without power at 4:13 p.m. EDT.

"This outline does not attempt to present or explain the linkages between the sequences of events that are described," the 14-page report said.

The report did not center on trees falling across power lines or chaos and confusion among grid operators in the hours leading up to the blackout which have been the subject of recent speculation.

Instead, it focused on a collapse of "reactive power" on the Eastern U.S. grid, a technical term for the special type of generation needed to keep voltage high enough to propel megawatts across transmission lines from power plants to homes and businesses that consume them.

"A voltage collapse caused plants and power lines to disconnect," Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said on a conference call with reporters. However, the event does not explain "why the disconnections and the fail-safes in the system were not sufficient," Abraham said.

Though the blackout did not hit until after 4:00 p.m. EDT, voltage problems and abnormal power flow was observed "well before noon," the report said. It did not elaborate.

The first event noted by the task force report was at about 12:05 p.m. EDT, when a generating unit shut down at a plant in central Ohio operated by giant utility American Electric Power Co. Inc. AEP.N .

About an hour later, a plant operated by DTE Energy Co. DTE.N near Detroit and another in Ohio operated by FirstEnergy Corp. FE.N shut down, the report said.

Events early in the day and specific reasons for why individual plants and lines tripped will be the focus of the next stage of the investigation which will take "several more weeks," Abraham said.

Also under review are "hundreds of events related to power plant interactions with the grid during this period," the report said.

The report makes no mention of transcripts released last week by congressional investigators showing chaos in Ohio utility FirstEnergy's control room and communication problems with the Midwest-area grid coordinator hours before the blackout began.

Investigators have not discounted the transcripts even though they were not included in the initial report, said Jimmy Glotfelty, an electricity expert at the Energy Department.

Last week, FirstEnergy defended its actions during the blackout, responding to criticism that its Ohio transmission lines might be the blackout's possible origin.

A company official, testifying to a congressional panel, said many factors likely contributed to the outage

A nationwide power cut plunged Italy into darkness early Sunday in one of the country's worst blackouts, which authorities blamed on the breakdown of electricity lines from France and Switzerland hit by storms.

The early morning blackout hit virtually the entire country, stranding more than 30,000 train passengers, forcing airlines to cancel flights and leaving people sleeping on the streets.

There were no reports of fatalities directly linked to the fourth major power breakdown in Western economies in two months.

It was Italy's worst blackout in nearly a decade and hit all of the country except the island of Sardinia and some small pockets of the mainland, officials said.

Eight hours after the power went out, huge sections of the country were still without electricity including Rome, where stranded subway and train passengers slept on the ground.

"It's chaos, and until the electricity comes back on it will continue to be chaos," said policeman Fabio Bragazzi, 21, at Rome's main Termini train station.

Italian authorities said the near simultaneous failure of power lines from neighboring Switzerland and France, which provides about one fifth of Italy's electricity at night, triggered the cut at 3:20 a.m. (0120 GMT).

"It was an exceptional, extraordinary event," Andrea Bollino, chairman of national grid operator GRTN, told Reuters.

"There was a problem with the connection in Switzerland which then caused a problem with our connection with France and then affected Italy," Bollino said.

French authorities said severe storms apparently cut two 400,000 volt lines connecting the two countries. Sunday morning the two lines were reconnected, restoring power to large parts of northern and central Italy.

"The origin of the main failure is not French. There was a failure between Switzerland and Italy around 3 a.m. (0100 GMT)," said Patrick Larradet, a spokesman for French grid operator RTE.

He said two French power lines came down shortly afterwards, around 3:25 a.m. (1025 GMT) -- most likely due to storms in the region -- but electricity was soon restored.

Power was expected to be up in the rest of Italy by Sunday afternoon, Industry Minister Antonio Marzano said.

"WE'RE NOT HAPPY AT ALL"

The outage brought an early close to an all-night party in the capital where shops, tourist sites and museums were meant to stay open until daybreak. Cash machines in Rome went on the blink.

Patrons in one Rome cafe without power to run the coffee machine turned to liqueur instead.

"We're not happy at all. Everything was fine until about 3:30 a.m. (0130 GMT). Then it all happened at once and now we're angry and wet," one sodden party-goer said.

About 110 trains with some 30,000 passengers were stranded when the power went out. "Almost all trains that were blocked are now brought into the stations," a spokesman for the state railway firm said.

Italy, which relies on a constant supply of imported power, especially from France, suffered several power outages over the summer as temperatures soared.

About five million consumers in eastern Denmark and southern Sweden were left in the dark last Wednesday in the worst blackout there in 20 years.

That followed last month's huge outage that left 50 million North Americans without power for up to two days and a shutdown which paralyzed London for several hours.

20,000 commuters were stuck yesterday on the Muscovite metro system, for hours in the dark.
must have been horrible. The Moscow metro is one of the deepest metro systems in the world, and runs in circle lines around the kremlin and is famous for its chandeliers. (I'm full of interesting titbits aren't i?).
The weather yesterday in moscow saw temperatures reach 27º as an unusual band of "hot weather" moved across continental europe from Africa. This led to "hot weather alerts" and "strong sun alerts" as levels of radiation reached all time highs. And one of the ceremonial guards at the Kremlin fainted.
Imagine what it was like down there in the muscovite tunnels,

uuuurgh.
