Fund-Raiser for Larkin 1913 Lock-Out Community Pageant

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the 1913 Lock-Out in Dublin.

Following on from the success of the community pageant in 1993 to mark the 80th anniversary (which was opened by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD), the Dublin City Folklore Centre has enlisted the help of a range of community and trade union activists with actors and local people to mark this occasion in a similar way.

The event will take place on Sunday 31st August at 3pm. It will begin at Buckingham Street Fire Station Artists Studios at 3pm. There will be a parade of men, women and children in period costume to Liberty Hall and culminate at Clery's in O'Connell Street (the then Imperial Hotel, where 'Big Jim' Larkin was arrested) with a re-enactment of Larkin's arrest.

Along the route there will be short readings about the time and events, and brief dramatic sketches. It will be particularly poignant give the recent death of James Plunkett Kelly, the author of Strumpet City.

As before, in 1993, we hope to mark the social and political significance of the event while making it as accessible and fun to local people as possible. It is a community-driven event. We hope that you can help us in marking this memorable occasion.
