Applications for asylum were up 14% on the previous 12 months after a surge in migrants reaching Britain in small boats, according to official figures. So much for Labour's promise to "smash the gangs".

It is simplistic to blame the recent spike in wildfires on climate change, writes Paul Homewood. A more likely cause is the rewilding of uplands, supposedly to cut carbon emissions, and poor management of forested land.

Give Bertie an Earful on Friday

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | press release author Tuesday July 08, 2003 00:22author by Still Not Paying - North Inner City Anti-Bin Tax Campaign Report this post to the editors

Bertie Ahern, and sidekick Royston Brady (the new Lord Mayor), will be opening the redeveloped park on the corner of Gardiner Street and Sean McDermot Street on Friday (11th).

This is the same Bertie whose pals have just passed a law allowing Councils to stop collecting rubbish from the 70% in Dublin who are boycotting the double tax.

If he thinks he'll get away with it, he can think again. Plans are already being put together for peaceful but effective direct action to ensure that they have to pick up all our bins.

If they need more cash let them go after their millionaire stud farm friends - instead of trying to make ordinary people pay twice for the same service.

Protesters are gathering at 1.30pm. Come along and give Bertie an earful.

Might be idea to get hold of old style bin lids and give them a good old hammerin.

didn't bertie's dippy brother make a public appeal to people to people to stop booing our fine toaiseach everytime he makes a public appearance......ya ok we'll take that into consideration!?!

Good idea about the bin lids but they are hard to find in Dublin now with the introduction of wheelie bins. So thats the reason they were introduced - to stop old time bin lid protests.

As for our "beloved" leaders brother:

if he can't stand the heat get the fuck out of the kitchen

Pots and pans would be a good substitute for bin lids. They'd make plenty of noise anyway.
