Will Trump ever admit he was wrong to back lockdown in March 2020 ? a decision that doomed America to years of crisis and sank his re-election hopes that year? Jeffrey Tucker is hopeful that truth will finally prevail.

Biden's team was still obliviously tweeting his resolve to fight on hours after he had decided to step down. So was the matter taken out of his hands? It has all the signs of an opportunistic palace coup, says Eugyppius.

The Guardian has published a 'fact check' of Donald Trump's claims about inflation and immigration. Just one problem, says David Craig: the 'fact check' gets its facts wrong. Who will guard us against the Guardian?

Labour has brought forward a Bill giving the Office of Budget Responsibility a "fiscal lock" over future economic policy. This is one more step in the erosion of parliamentary democracy, says Andrew Collingwood.

John Church: Calling Bullshit

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Monday June 29, 2020 22:26author by 1 of indy Report this post to the editors

Finally there is someone out there and certainly not from the mainstream media who is calling bullshit on the whole Covid nonsense. In this opinion piece by John Church from the hectordrummond blog, many will nod their head in agreement. He really cuts through the crap.

I have had enough. After nearly 3 months of this, I am going to call it for what it is: TOTAL AND UTTER NONSENSE. I cannot watch any news programme anymore, given the 24/7 monochromal pseudo-emotion that is all we ever see.

He writes

And then it’s announced that we all have to wear masks in public and will be criminals if we pop out for a newspaper whilst serving our mandatory fourteen-day post-travel quarantine. And like muppets we just swallow it, whilst reading the papers full of pictures of mass, non-socially distant BLM protests. What the hell is that about? Either we are facing a health crisis so severe we have had to be imprisoned for three months (an unprecedented response to a disease by the way), or it’s okay to mill around in London with tens of thousands of others. It can’t be both. And it isn’t.

There is an unholy axis of blind incompetence between our dysfunctional government, the child-like so called ‘expert scientists’, and the hysterical bedwetters who still have the gall to call themselves news reporters. ....

7. There is nowhere in the world that shows infections continuing to rise exponentially after 20% of a population is infected, even in dense urban centres. The smart money on this is that there are many of us that are naturally resistant. But regardless of the reason, is it any surprise they can’t find anybody to test potential vaccines on in Britain? And yet all our pubs and restaurants are going to go bust. Because you can’t run a pub if everyone needs four square meters!

.....
9. Sweden didn’t even have a lockdown, and they have only three-quarters of the per capita deaths we have had. Duh!

We would handle it differently in hindsight - Anders Tegnall

BRUSSELS — For months, the world has watched Sweden's light-touch approach to fighting the coronavirus pandemic, wondering whether it was genius or misguided. This week, the architect of the strategy acknowledged that too many people have died and said that, in retrospect, he might have pushed something closer to other countries' restrictions. “Should we encounter the same disease, with exactly what we know about it today, I think we would land midway between what Sweden did and what the rest of the world did,” Swedish state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell told Swedish Radio on Wednesday. Swedish authorities have consistently denied that they were aiming to achieve full-population immunity by keeping much of their public life humming as usual. They said that if they protected the elderly and other vulnerable groups while allowing others to carry on, the country might be more resilient in the face of a second wave of infections and avoid the economic chaos of a total shutdown. Deaths in Sweden, though, have been eight times higher than in Denmark and 19 times higher than in Norway, even though Sweden is only double each neighbors’ size.
