Cork Airport is been forgotten.

Cork Airport is being left in the lurch while other Irish airports receive new services.

Republican SINN FÉIN Poblachtach – Cork is calling on the manager of Cork Airport to clarify why so few services have been secured for the region and is frustrated by the apparent lack of progress as good news for Cork Airport will have a knock-on effect to tourism and job creation in Cork.

“The summer tourism season got off to a great start this week in all but Cork Airport it would seem. Dublin and Shannon Airport were in a position to make significant good news announcements with Dublin announcing fifteen new services while Shannon has nine new routes to commence this week alone. While these are to be welcomed, they also signify just how much Cork Airport is lagging behind,“ said a RSF Cork spokesperson.

“Compared to the scale of Dublin and Shannon Airport’s significant new service announcements, Cork Airport only had a recent regional launch for Aer Lingus with a new route from Cork to Newcastle and an increased frequency on Ryanair’s Cork to Stansted route for the winter of 2014.

The RSF Cork spokesperson added: "Cork Airport hasn’t reaped the benefits of the Government’s reduction of the air travel tax to zero which was met with widespread popularity among airlines who were willing to increase capacity on Ireland’s key access routes in response.”
Ryanair also came in for criticism from RSF Cork for implementing extra services in other Irish airports like Shannon, Dublin and Knock Airport but completely bypassing Cork.

“I want to know why negotiations between Cork Airport and Ryanair in particular haven’t been more successful and fruitful for Cork. We desperately need more services and routes in and out of Cork to revitalise job creation, business development and tourism in the Cork region and we are calling on the new Cork City manager to engage in dialogue with Cork Airport on this issue.”
