Undercover Investigations As part of World Vegan Month, Vegan Ireland will present an event packed evening on Saturday 23rd November in Exchange Dublin. The main feature of the night is a talk by Animal Equality’s Laura Gough titled “Making more of our investigations” (http://www.animalequality.net/). This will explore effective undercover investigations. Followed this will be a screening of the undercover investigation documentary “Death on a Factory Farm”. For all the beautiful vegans out there, a discount up to 30% will be available on cosmetic products suitable for vegans from a new business Panama Lifestyles. And if that’s not enough there will be vegan cakes to whet the appetite!
About the Talk:
“Investigations are one of the most effective ways in which we can get information on animal exploitation out to the public. Investigations easily reach the media and get the public thinking about animal issues. There are a few ways in which we at Animal Equality have learnt to make the investigations more effective. This talk will explore some of the past investigations Animal Equality has carried out and how Animal Equality uses tools to achieve more results from their investigations in the present.”
Laura will also talk about veganism in countries which Animal Equality are active. This are Spain, UK, India, Germany, Italy and Venezuela.
Q&A will follow the talk.
About Laura Gough
“Laura Gough joined Animal Equality in 2009, and she is currently the Campaign Manager for Animal Equality in the UK. Animal Equality is an international animal rights organisation that works to raise public awareness of the suffering of animals in our society, through vegan outreach campaigns and investigations.”
Animal Equality is an international non-profit organisation dedicated promoting a vegan lifestyle and educating society to challenge speciesism
About “Death on a Factory Farm”
Death on a Factory Farm follows the undercover investigation of Wiles Hog Farm by the animal protection group The Humane Farming Association (HFA), and the resulting court case against it. Although the movie focuses on the treatment of animals rather than raising a serious question about their use, this is still a shocking look into what happens on factory farms. The documentary was published by HBO and tracks the work of undercover investigator “Pete” who wore a hidden camera while he worked as a farmhand at Wiles. Over the course of six weeks, Pete secretly filmed numerous scenes which would later be used to take Wiles to court. After leaving Wiles, the story moves to Pete’s own life and the commitment and sacrifice this job entails. The documentary ends with a tense court case between the Prosecutor and Wiles Hog Farms and reveals how speciesist is our society.
