Very well put Sheila.
The IGB are really stooping to new depths, and I hadn't thought they could stoop any lower!! To encourage children to gamble when addiction to gambling is growing everywhere and has become a worse problem in Ireland in the last 6 months, demonstrates the mentality of the IGB.
I will wait and watch with great interest to see what they do about the killed greyhounds found in Limerick in a mass grave recently. The IGB state that from the ear tattoos they have traced 2 owners. The IGB, like all the racing fraternity, love to talk about welfare but the truth is that these gentle dogs are expendable objects that are only of any interest if they win money.
I wouldn't allow any child of mine to go near a dog track. This industry is cruel, abusive and they would sell their own grandmother if they could get the right price. Do not forget that it was the IGB who were dead keen to put more cash in their grubby pockets by sending Irish greyhounds to China where they would not be able to be rescued but would be given lethal injection automatically when no longer making the grade. Australia supplies them with 40 greyhounds per month and those 40 greyhounds are kept in very sad conditions with the only way out being death.
Oh what a lovely industry to teach the Irish children about. Come on Irish people - say NO NO NO to this cynical, though typical, idea from the IGB.
Nice one sheila. You go girl! thanks for the excellent quotes too! ;-)

I have to laugh, then cry, at the stupidity when people repeat the hysterical phrase “fanatical Animal rights” activists. There is NOTHING fanatical about intelligent, evolved people showing compassion to all and trying to get youth to see the evil in the world in order not to repeat it. Calling AR activists terrorists and fanatics was invented by the government and perpetuated by the media to discredit those that threaten to take political or corporate power/profits from the status quo.
My dear frankel - "perceive as cruel actions" Perceived, REALLY? You obviously are lacking a conscious and a soul if you cannot recognize ACTUAL cruelty. "Among psychopaths the most readily observable trait is lack of sympathy and affection. Sight of pain and suffering does not move them." - Dorothy Thompson. Any INTELLIGENT and ADVANCED human being knows that ALL living beings suffer and have the RIGHT not to suffer. "The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different."- Hippocrates. Because humans of your ilk think they are the center of the universe and the only ones deserving of any consideration you convince yourselves that non human animals have no rights. You don't have one heart for people and another for animals. Either you have a heart or you don't.
And you, my dear frankel, apparently do not have one.
“A thinking man feels compelled to approach all life with the same reverence as he has for his own. Anyone who has accustomed himself to regard the life of any living creature as worthless is in danger of arriving also at the idea of worthless human lives.” Albert Schweitzer
"Animals are every day perishing under the hands of barbarity, without notice, without mercy, famished as if hunger was no evil, mauled as if they had no sense of pain, and hurried about incessantly from day to day, as if excessive toil was no plague, or extreme weariness was no degree of suffering...the obligation to be kind and merciful to animals remains the same whether they souls or not (they do of course but we try to deny it). Their status as respects a future life does not annihilate suffering & pain. PAIN IS PAIN; it makes no difference whether in an animal or a man." E .D. Buckner, MD
"When a man wantonly destroys one of the works of man we call him a vandal. When he destroys one of the works of god we call him a sportsman."~Krutch, Joseph Wood
"Cruelty to animals is one of the distinguishing vices of low and base minds. Wherever it is found, it is a certain mark of ignorance and meanness; a mark which all the external advantages of wealth, splendor, and nobility, cannot obliterate. It is consistent neither with learning nor true civility.-William Jones
Surely if our Minister feels it was ok to permit fanatical Animal rights campaigners enter a school under his remit and shock students with their speeches and presentations on what they perceive as cruel actions , and then proceed to uploading a video of the same students on to the internet without parental consent of all students present he wont mind a few kids going on a field trip to see a greyhound stadium now will he?
The Minister was urged after the ARAN visit to schools to not permit external visits without parental consent , and most definately not to have their images up on the internet without the same consent, so his reply to your 'urgings' will be watched with great intent.
As if its not 'good for the goose for the gander' he will have a challenge on his hands.
