'Bloody Sunday' Rally : 40th Anniversary.

category dublin | history and heritage | event notice author Monday January 09, 2012 22:53author by Sharon. - Individual. Report this post to the editors

GPO , Dublin , Saturday 28th January 2012 , 12 Noon - 1.45pm.

Republican Sinn Féin will hold a Rally on the traffic isle in O' Connell Street , Dublin (facing the GPO) to mark the 40th Anniversary of 'Bloody Sunday'.
40th Anniversary to be marked at the GPO , Dublin, Sat 28/1/12 , 12 Noon - 1.45pm.
40th Anniversary to be marked at the GPO , Dublin, Sat 28/1/12 , 12 Noon - 1.45pm.

The 40th Anniversary of 'Bloody Sunday' , Derry , will be marked in Dublin on Saturday 28th January 2012 , by Republican Sinn Féin , in a Rally to be held near the GPO , O' Connell Street , from 12 Noon to 1.45PM. After a peaceful Civil Rights march on January 30th , 1972 - from Creggan to Free Derry Corner - units of the British army Parachute Regiment opened fire with automatic rifles and shot dead 14 unarmed civilians , injuring many more . It was later revealed that some days prior to the massacre , the British soldiers involved had been briefed to “…shoot to kill..” at the march . “This Sunday became known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ and bloody it was . It was quite unnecessary . It strikes me that the (British) army ran amok that day and shot without thinking of what they were doing . They were shooting innocent people . They may have been taking part in a parade which was banned , but that did not justify the troops coming in and firing live rounds indiscriminately . I would say without reservations that it was sheer unadulterated murder . It was murder , gentlemen.” - the words of British Major Hubert O’Neill , Derry City Coroner, at the conclusion of the inquests on the 13 people killed by the British Army on Bloody Sunday.

Comhairle Laighean, Sinn Féin Poblachtach  ('Leinster Executive' , Republican Sinn Féin) has prepared and has begun distribution of 2,000 leaflets in connection with this Rally : 300 leaflet 'packs' (each consisting of five Republican leaflets) and 250 'Saoirse' newspapers , each with a 'Bloody Sunday' leaflet attached to it , will have been distributed to the public before the end of the Rally .

Also , an amplification system will be set-up 'on site' on the day , from which an RSF representative will deliver a speech directly related to the events of the 'Bloody Sunday' massacre.

Thanks,

Sharon.

Bloody Sunday should not be forgotten.

But this is the wrong crowd of murdering outlaws to associate themselves with it, your comrades after all caused bloody days themselves (RIP Stephen Carroll for one).

Might your friends after the rally busy themselves cleaning up the toxic sludge they dumped on every boreen in Co Louth, the bi-product of their criminal activity of fuel laundering.

1169 is nearly a millenium ago, lets just try to live together peacefully on this little Isle instead of the constant reliving of past atrocities and trying to re-awaken the hatred.

Hi Midlander !
You seem confused re where exactly you stand on this issue - you declare it "a noble idea" to remember something that happened 40 years ago yet you also accuse those who seek to publicly commemorate same as "reliving past atrocities and trying to re-awaken the hatred" ?
As a political organisation - and one which is not 'outlawed' - RSF has set itself against the "toxic sludge.....and criminal activity..." left behind and caused by the political gangsters that can be found in and around Kildare Street in Dublin : the activities of "murdering outlaws" , meanwhile , can be witnessed at the 'Related Link' , below.
Thanks anyway,
Sharon.

Or maybe I phrased it badly.

History should not be forgotten but it is history.

What you are doing here is trying to do is gain support for a tiny marginalised political party from the "barstool republican" elements in society. After all the vast majority of voters in the Republic and the North voted for the peace process.

I know RSF is a legal wannabe political party and hang out around Kildare St, but the enforcers/murderers/thugs in CIRA are certainly not legal and are more likely to be seen on rural roads in dodgy fuel tankers or at some aged post mistresses or bankers house in the early hours.

That part of RSF wants to stay in the dark ages because they profit from prolonging the troubles in the North.

Thank you too.

Hi again , Midlander !

"Or maybe I phrased it badly."
No "maybe" about it - you worded it as you did in the hope of putting a 'spin' on the issue.

"History should not be forgotten but it is history."
And, as such , offers a lesson to learn from , do you think ?

"What you are doing here is trying to do is gain support for a tiny marginalised political party from the "barstool republican" elements in society."
No , not at all : RSF is an extremely active Republican organisation , at ground level, and does not confine itself to the 'bar' which , if I may say so, seems to be the venue in which you read your copy of 'The Sunday Independent'.

"After all the vast majority of voters in the Republic and the North voted for the peace process."
A proper 'peace process' will have to include a date for full British military and political withdrawal - otherwise all that might be 'gained' is a lull in activity, unfortunately.

"I know RSF is a legal wannabe political party and hang out around Kildare St..."
The only reason RSF would "hang out" outside that institution would be to protest. But you "know" otherwise , do you ?

"... but the enforcers/murderers/thugs in CIRA are certainly not legal and are more likely to be seen on rural roads in dodgy fuel tankers or at some aged post mistresses or bankers house in the early hours...."
Read that in the pub , did you - or have you names , dates etc , to support that allegation ?

"That part of RSF wants to stay in the dark ages because they profit from prolonging the troubles in the North."
More 'pub talk' , Midlander - come back with something else and perhaps we can have a proper discussion.
Again - thanks anyway,
Sharon.

Strange as it might seem for an Irishman, I neither drink nor frequent pubs.

I am capable of forming opinions without the aid of alcohol or the Indo.  I do agree that history offers a lesson and if anything can be taken from the troubles we should have learned that an awful lot of people died needlesssly on all sides.

Many may indeed believe that RSF are seperate from the CIRA, either way you do not have an elected mandate either side of the border to tell the rest of us what is or is not a peace process.

I'm hardly going to name names or incidents when my IP address is most probably recorded here, I'll leave that to Gardai/PSNI and courts to sort out.

Have a good protest and lets hope you have a lull in activity for many years to come.

Hi Midlander !

"Strange as it might seem for an Irishman, I neither drink nor frequent pubs. I am capable of forming opinions without the aid of alcohol or the Indo. "
Then please allow that others are capable of doing so , too - and don't be so quick in future to accuse people of only being able to form their opinions on the "barstool".

"I do agree that history offers a lesson and if anything can be taken from the troubles we should have learned that an awful lot of people died needlesssly on all sides."
Despite the many "troubles" that Westminster has caused , it appears that she is yet to learn that lesson.

"Many may indeed believe that RSF are seperate from the CIRA, either way you do not have an elected mandate either side of the border to tell the rest of us what is or is not a peace process. "
A proper 'peace process' will have to include the provision I mentioned previously - I don't need " a mandate" from you or anyone else to state my opinion on that.

"I'm hardly going to name names or incidents when my IP address is most probably recorded here, I'll leave that to Gardai/PSNI and courts to sort out."
Then don't attempt to 'spin' the subject just yet - perhaps best to wait until you have 'verification' from those sources you mentioned , which you apparently place some trust in ?

"Have a good protest and lets hope you have a lull in activity for many years to come."
We'll be taking to the streets again , this time next year (and many times between this and then) to commemorate , in January 2013 , the 41st Anniversary of 'Bloody Sunday'.
Speak to you then , no doubt......
Thanks,
Slán go foill anois,
Sharon.

Hi Midlander !
More likely that Joe is referencing the number of times you contradicted yourself.
If you can leave the comfort of that bridge you live under on Saturday coming , Midlander, you and I can continue this conversation in O' Connell Street , Dublin, anytime between 12 Noon and 1.45pm - at least that way you will only be embarrassing yourself in front of me.
Thanks,
Sharon.

Hi !

This RSF-organised 'Bloody Sunday' Rally went ahead as planned today in O' Connell Street , Dublin , with only two 'hitches' : the usual unwanted and unnecessary State attention and we ran out of leaflets !
The speaker gave a detailed description of events that day 40 years ago , including details of the 14 people who died as a result of the vicious actions of the British Army and he quoted from the comments made by British Army Major Hubert O' Neill , on 21st August 1973 , re the 'Bloody Sunday' massacre.
A brief report and a few pics can be seen at the 'Related Link' , below.
Thanks,
