event notice
Monday November 21, 2011 22:23 by Kev - IPSC
Filmbase in Dublin will be hosting a series of “Israeli Film Days” sponsored by the Israeli Embassy between November 24th and 27th. The IPSC is calling on our supporters to mobilise in opposition to this attempt to use “culture” to whitewash Israeli apartheid and human rights violations against the Palestinian people. In 2005 a director of the Israeli foreign ministry stated that “We see culture as a hasbara [propaganda] tool of the first rank, and do not differentiate between propaganda and culture.” Filmbase has sold out to the Israeli regime by offering itself as a vehicle for this propaganda. It has sacrificed the power of culture to the culture of power. The IPSC will be staging a series of protests and leaflettings outside the venue over the course of the festival. If you can make it along to any or all of the mobilisations then please do, it is very important that we do not allow this attempt at normalising the abnormal to happen without raising our voices in opposition. We also recommend that you write to Filmbase to protest their hosting of this event - see here for more info: http://www.ipsc.ie/press-releases/protest-the-israeli-f...ublin |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5It's great to see this film festival in Dublin. I hope it becomes a regular event. Well done to Filmbase for hosting it.
You mean like the daily harassment of Palestinians trying to get to school or work in their own country and the ongoing regular evictions and settlements in East jerusalem and the West Bank...or just the regular incursions and bombardments of civilians trapped in the Gaza ghetto?
Or the regular assassinations of Mossad, using Irish and other passports, and the regular high-seas piracy of aid vessels trying to break the illegal blockade of Gaza and supply medical essentials?
Regular events, so reliable you could call for them regularly. Its in the hasbara regulations.
..saying Gilmore is opening the gig...maybe he's thinking of collecting royalties on our passport copyrights.
In the national interest.
Folks, Protest outside if ye really want to. It's a right after all. However, this campaign went well beyond that to trying to have the festival shut down. I believe the Filmbase people got nasty phone calls. We don't need the IPSC folks to act as ideological nannies for the Irish nation. Personally, I'm informed enough to make up my own mind. Rather than banning Israeli films, how about setting up a Palestinian Film Festival? More please, not less. Thank you.
I cant approve of that.
But then Palestinians get drones on their phones....and thats nastier...especially when the kids are often at home.
Nope, Israel needs boycotting, but it says something negative about your film-club that it is willing to host propaganda.
How do i know its propaganda/hasbara? Because Israel has overtly told us so. Its not secret, if you look beyond your wallet.
And because the Israeli ambassador has designated protesters as 'riff raff'. Now that deserves a phone-call.
You've made up your own mind?
That propaganda is ok?
I'm not a member of any organisationby the way; I just made up my own mind that Israel needs a little more than encouragement in its fascistic and racist expansionism for leibensraum at the expense of all and sundry.
