If you weren?t already gibbering in your boots at the prospect of devastating climate change, it's time to think again. Apparently, the movement of water from the 'melting icecaps' is slowing the rotation of the Earth.

UK Ban on Circuses should be replicated

category international | animal rights | press release author Sunday June 26, 2011 15:57author by Campaign to Abolish Animal Cruelty in Sport Report this post to the editors

The UK parliament has voted to ban wild animals from circuses. Lets do likewise in Ireland!

Britain has taken a great step forward with the vote in the House of Commons for a ban on wild animals in circuses.

We urgently need similar legislation here, where animals continued to be horribly ill-treated in circuses for the purpose of entertainment.

But I suggest that any ban should be extended to include the cruel "sport" of hare coursing, which also involves taking animals from the wild, holding them in unnatural captivity, and forcing them to perform...all for gambling and a bit of a laugh.

Hare coursing was one of the depraved bloodsports practised in the ancient Roman Circus, and in the fifth century Saint Augustine spoke out against it.

Let's ban wild animals from circuses, but let's also put an end to the cruellest circus of all, the national scandal that is park hare coursing.

Here is the televised debate from the House of Commons on animals in circuses. Note that the PM, David Cameron, tried to silence the Tory MP who raised the issue and proposed the ban!

And here is our own disgusting hare coursing:

Here's a link to an interesting item on a County Limerick Farmer who fought for halfa lifetime to protect animals from recreational cruelty= "fieldsports". No less a guy than Brian May of Queen pays tribute to him...!!
