The media appears to have ignored the successful circuit court appeal against Chris Lavelle, the Mayo publican who admitted to a district court judge that he had called on other publicans to ban Travellers, even if there was no basis to refuse them service. Even though the judge accused Mr. Lavelle of acting illegally, and of inciting others to do the same, she still renewed his licence. Is there any hope that the mainstream media will rise above the standards of unfairness against Travellers set by the likes of Brendan O’Connor, Mary Ellen Synon and Kevin Myers? read full story / add a comment

If the presence of the life process is considered to be one of the exclusive characteristics of living creatures, what then are we to say about seeds? Does it ever occur to you that in those monocellulars “that have survived till today” the life process has virtually never come to a stop since the very beginning of their existence? The SSP won 6 seats in the May 1 Scottish Assembly Elections. Some left wing critics of the party's convenor Tommy Sheridan - including the Irish Socialist Party member Stephen Boyd - criticised comments made by Sheridan about big business in Scotland.
