Porsche has scrapped its sales targets for EVs amid a slump in demand. A previous goal of 80% by 2030 has been watered down and the company now says sales will depend on uptake and how the technology develops.

Labour is "mission-driven", says Keir Starmer. But the last thing anyone should want is a Government with a mission, says David McGrogan. That's because a Government with a mission needs conscripts. That's you and me.

Jim Corr's Lies about Lisbon Treaty

category national | miscellaneous | other press author Monday September 21, 2009 22:48author by Ger Kelly Report this post to the editors

Jim Corr is using a selective quote from an article by Giscard d'Estaing to give a completely false impression of what he actually said

Jim Corr has been all over the media recently quoting Valery Giscard d’Estaing and claiming that he wants to sneak the European Constitution past the Irish electorate. This is a big lie and Jim Corr knows it!

The quote he’s using is from an article written by Giscard which appeared in Le Monde on 15 June 2007 (see quote below). The quote is part of a critique of somebody else’s suggestion that the constitution be ratified by the member states piecemeal and on the sly. In the next paragraph (which Corr neglects to mention) Giscard rejects this idea, saying, “This approach of ‘divide and ratify’ is clearly unacceptable... it would confirm to European citizens the notion that European construction is a procedure organised behind their backs by lawyers and diplomats.”

In the following paragraphs Giscard goes on to appeal for an “honest treaty” and “total transparency” to allow citizens to hear the debate for themselves.

Clearly the meaning that Giscard intended is the exact opposite of what Jim Corr claims it is. Jim Corr is quoting selectively in order to give a false impression in a way that can only be described as dishonest.

Original text of article:

Corr is a clown who is incoherent on everything he talks about. This whole new world order, 9/11 conspiracy, one world govt stuff is for the birds. A mile wide and an inch deep. Just because he's on the right side of Lisbon is no reason to promote his crap ideas. Lots of fascists are on the right side of Lisbon.

I know lots of people have seen lots ot the Vote NO videos on Youtube but if anybody is thinking of voting Yes you should really, really, really look at these videos, you may just change your mind and Jim Corr isn't in them either. Just EU politicians and policies. Even if you think he may have made a mistake in one comment but there aren't mistakes in these videos...

Jim is just a pop star. He is not an intellectual by any stretch of the imagination. Knocking jim corr down is just a straw man argument. The YES campaign must be floundering if they resort to such petty tactics.
