China uses Cattle Prods on Monks

Hundreds of people joined protests led by Buddhist monks against Chinese Communist rule in Tibet today. monks set police cars on fire after a demonstration was stopped by police. Buddhist monks started a hunger strike and two others attempted suicide by slitting their wrists.

Reports of gunfire and burning shops are coming from Lhasa this afternoon. Chinese Communist rule in Tibet has always cracked down hard on such protests before but with the looming Olympic Games, the Communists are wary of displaying their utter disregard for Human Rights.

Chinese Comunist authorities used tear gas and electric prods to disperse hundreds of protesters, and arrested up to 60 monks.

Tibet is just as entitled to self determination as Ireland. The Chinese Government is neither Communist nor Socialist. China is run in the interest of the new Party/Capitalist class.

At present Tibet is occupied by a larger neighbour who has oppressed it for over 800 years (sound familiar?). By supporting Tibetan indepenence you dont have to support the Dali Lama or a return to his Theocratic Government in Tibet. The people of Tibet have the right to decide on the sort of government THEY want.

Maybe a good start would be a boycott of the Olympics.

The Dali Lama annouce he wants the next tibeten leader to be elected properly. With countries like China, who thinks the EU wont be militarised enough afte rlisbon is passed?

China simply rounds up dissidents and carts them off to forced labour camps or finishes them with pistol shots to the head.
Why should Tibetans protest peacefully and make it easy for the Chinese to rub them out and replace them with Chinese settlers?
