A biomedical scientist who called her Portuguese neighbour a "Spanish whore" during a row over a fire alarm was cautioned by police for a hate crime and struck off. No wonder the cops have no time to solve burglaries.

England's seaside towns, like Southport, are microcosms of the country at large, where the magnificent infrastructure has been neglected to the point of decay and we barbarians live amongst its ruins, says Joanna Gray.

Bobby Sands Book Launch - Dublin

category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Wednesday March 08, 2006 02:44author by Sinéad Ní Bhroinauthor address sineadnibhroin@eircom.netauthor phone 087 9266764 Report this post to the editors

You are warmly invited to the launch of a new book BOBBY SANDS, Nothing but an Unfinished Song by Denis O'Hearn on Friday 10th March, Padraig Pearse Centre, 7pm, Pearse Street, Dublin.

The event is being hosted by Left Republican, which has recently relaunched its magazine (see details below). If you subscribe to the magazine you receive this new book & a 2nd new publication at a reduced cost along with 6 sequential bi-monthly magazines. To find out more about Left Republican Review or to subscribe go to http://www.leftrepublican.com/subscriptions.htm

'Bobby Sands, as this magnificent biography reminds us, was a hero for the whole world and yet broad Belfast to the core. We cried when he died, but he laughed in the face of tyranny and taught us the deepest meaning of comradeship.' Mike Davis

Hope to see you on Friday.

Left Republican is an independent political platform bringing together left, republican, feminist and green voices from across Ireland in a spirit of open debate and dialogue. We aim to provide a space for all shades of progressive opinion in Ireland and to provoke discussion on political, economic, strategic and organisational issues. We also aim to provide a platform for those forces and voices from across the globe who are struggling for independence, socialism, democracy and peace. Our motto is; ‘Those who have lost the ability to criticise themselves, have lost any idea of who they are’ and in that light we hope to create a space for open, free and constructive criticism, the aim of which is to strengthen progressive movements in Ireland and further the goals of Irish independence, political and cultural equality and economic and social justice. Left Republican believes that another world is possible, based on freedom, empowerment and solidarity.

Will it never end the way these dissident republicans continue to split into fractions. We now have the New Republican Forum which is a split from the 32 CSM. The zine which Red Republican advertises above is the journal of this latest bunch of splitters. I would be interested in finding out why they split from the 32 CSM but no details are supplied in the zine.

They list 16 prisoners in Ireland and England as being affiliated to the NRF. I guess the rest of the RIRA prisoners are still affiliated to the 32 CSM but maybe Barry would be kind enough to confirm this.

I see this is being posted by a SWP executive member. Have the SWP and SF got closer ties now?

Just to confirm Curious,

I am no longer a member of the SWP. Nor am I now a member of any political party.

Eoin O'Broin, Editior of Left Republican Review (who were hosting the book launch) is my brother & posting the notice was a simple act of sisterly solidarity. So no, on this occassion the SWP & SF are not getting 'closer'!!!

Sinéad.
