Back in the old days, intelligence agents went out and gathered information. Now, they seem to spend all their time writing pulp fiction about the links between Iraq and al-Qaeda, and Iran's nuclear weapons programme, and about how probably the entire leadership of the Provisional IRA is made up of British agents.

It must be a lot easier to sit at your desk writing cheap thrillers all day, much less dangerous than spying, and apparently much more likely to earn a big bonus from your boss.

And it's all a lot more interesting than the truth.

Best,
Coilín.

There should clearly be an investigation as to what extent the economic policies of SInn Fein/MI5 have been dictated by British agents working within Sinn Fein. Almost all Sinn Fein's economic policies are designed to serve British interests, not Irish interests. There are lots of examples. Ireland has been resisting external pressure to raise corporation tax for years. Its in the British interest that Ireland do so since, as long as Ireland continues with a low rate of corporation tax, the British regions can not compete with Ireland for foreign investment. On Friday Sinn Fein announced that they want to raise corporation tax in Ireland closer to British levels. In whose interests are they acting? Then there is the saga of the Corrib gas field. As long as this field remains undeveloped, Ireland is dependent on the UK for gas supplies. This obviously gives the UK government a great deal of power over Ireland. They can threaten to turn off our gas supplies any time they like. Over the past twelve months Sinn Fein has been doing everything possible to halt development of the Corrib gas field. In whose interests are they acting? And, of course, there is the CAP. This brings great benefit to rural Ireland, but the British have been trying to get rid of it for decades. All political parties in Ireland have supported the CAP up to now, but this consensus has now been broken by Sinn Fein who support the British policy of getting rid of the CAP. In whose interests are they acting? So, remember when you vote in May 2007 that a vote for Sinn Fein is a vote for giving MI5 control of Irish economic policy.

Whatever the merits of such allegations, Brit strategy has been simple in recent years.

Given that the military campaign was effectively over such ‘infiltration’, has been to de -radicalise and de - mobilise the Republican Movement as 'a whole'.

That includes all structures, campaigns, affiliates, resources, media and support groups.

With that they have sought to 'individualise {Carrot and the stick} through funding, access, and 'opportunity.

{Although soon they will have no need to do such, 'as people will just have to get on with it'}

In doing so they wish to further de -radicalise and de - mobilise Republicanism 'as a whole, while hopefully ‘encouraging’ similar to those who may lend them support or who would work with them.

Anyone advocating physical force though, I say, has got it completely wrong as that is not where it is at.
An even more intense Brit strategy will of course follow through, eventually, in that regard, as history has shown.

However it goes much further, as by hoping to ‘strip’ Republicans of radical Republicanism it then will therefore be both of little military concern and, then, will be also of little political concern, to the Brits.

As all that there will eventually have been 'created' is but a newer version of FF.

What good then is a Republic to Republicans without such once Republicanism?

That is where it is being taken presently, the question is, is that the end game?.

John, and pretty much everyone who reads this site, knows by now that the Irish people will have no say over where the gas goes under the deal currently proposed by Shell and the Irish Government.

The gas will be sold by Shell at market prices to whoever they want to sell it to. Developing the Corrib Field will have no effect on Irish security of supply.

John knows this, and knows that Sinn Féin and all the other groups opposed to the current scheme are acting in the interests of the people of north west Mayo, and more generally in the interests of the people of Ireland.

So why does he post rubbish like this?

Why doesn't Shell go offshore?

The end game is precisely what Britain declared its counter insurgency objectives to be in the mid 1970s - Ulsterisation , Normalisation , Criminalisation of political prisoners . Making some form of British rule acceptable to the nationalist community .

Under the Adams/ McGuinnesss leadership this set of MI5 objectives started to overlap remarkably with sinn feins objectives , with sinn fein dressing these basic facts up in nationalist rhetoric . That overlap is now complete with the surrender of arms and imminent entry into the British police as opposed to merely spying on their behalf .

Britains "securocrats" have it seems scored a total victory in securing their objectives with the assistance of an agent ridden sinn fein leadership .

At present I dont think any sensible person is arguing for a short sighted militaristic response to this from genuine republicans , as the RIRAs New Years statement would seem to indicate .

Rather it is essential for republicans to engage in much needed dialogue and debate . Due to the actions of Adams and McGuinness even the very definition of republican seperatism has been totally obscured and misrepresented as to become unrecognisable ., What constitutes a republican seperatist must now be placed on the agenda for urgent examination , discussion and self critique .

Republican separatism as a political philosophy must first be clearly defined before any reconstruction of its ideological base and political programme can be effectively implemented . In short theres a mountain to climb as a result of the scale of deception and betrayal by that leadership over the last few decades .

What earthly reason is there to believe this MI5 agent is telling the truth? If Martin McGuinness was an MI5 agent, the last people who would be telling you this is MI5.
