Jump To Comment: 4 3 2 1Today saw the Barcelona newspaper La Vanguardia publish on its back page "interesting person" interview, the words of Raymond Mc Cartney.
Like Eoin O'Broin's unsolicited contribution to "Catalonia Today" the Catalan circulation anglophone &/ catalan community language newspaper, it is not only couched in "the language" but was time to coincide with an "ETA" development and the ard fheis of the SF party and the march by the Catalan nationalist "republican" party ERC, (which caused polemic when they claimed varyingly 700,000 to 1million participation http://indymedia.ie/article/74375 whereas a group of tippy toppy mathematicians {the type the NSA try to hire} put it at around 70,000 [half of which were kids who can't vote] and the cops {unpleasant lot who hassle street traders and foreigners but speak catalan these days } put it at only 125,000).
You may see photos @ the link, perhaps the missing hundreds of thousands were hiding under the big flags.
here's the link to Richard Mc Cartney's interview ( in castillian spanish) for fans of Irish nationalist republican socialist internationalisation.
quite a combination of ideologies which doesn't always work. This is because though the party cadres and members may understand how to juggle "socialism" "nationalism" "republicanism" many of the voters, who justify their position since they are interested in ("representative liberal democracy") don't bother getting their heads or prejudices around the obvious dichotomies.
He starts by admitting his age, which is honesty indeed. 51 and admits to wishing whilst in the IRA to create a Vietnam for the engurlish. The piece was entitled " I am happy I did not destroy the English". The interview also notes his rôle in the Hunger Strikes and the making of the movie "Bloody Sunday" which most people in Spain have seen. Not for the first time an opinion piece by a SF leading character ( is he a spy too? another one of those green bottles? ) will have been read by its readership in connection with the "non ceasefire" announced the terrorist group ETA despite signals being made to "fellow" nationalist socialist republican groupings in the spanish state and various other media organisations not only commercial and local but state, international and blogs! Oh yeah Clinton was mentioned too. & having been a soldier in teh response to the weighty & usual "didy'a kill anyone" question.
Of course we note, that many spanish readers, reading that interview in spanish would have pondered for a moment when and if they might read such an interview from an volunteer closer to home. I wouldn't doubt many were relieved that moment is not coming soon. It is also worth noting that Mr Mc Cartney admitted to working with IU (united left) the spanish post marxist party whose catalan relatives are ICV. It seems SF get about, Eoin O broin never made it clear when he volunteered his article who he thought he was writing for.

today's arrest of 2 ETA members who are alledged to have planned an assasination of a Valencian politician (a lady mayoress) tomorrow, will not look so good with many happy readers of EoB's piece in the pan-catalonia newspaper. Valencia though a majority "unionist" community (of the 17 spanish communities under the present constitution) is claimed by some catalan nationalists.
The arrest follows others this week, and has taken the front page of the newspapers this morning.
It is worth considering (if you're thinking of getting into the "airing your thoughts thing") that if you contribute pieces to weekly publications which are intended to be topical, it is a good idea to be fully aware of the what's likely to happen in the week your article is going to be on the news-stand.
It is always recommended to new time contributors to familiarise themselves not only with the editorial staff, but also with the readership in the catchment area. Europe is a very big place, and european affairs can be very complicated. Today Mr Josep has moved to distance himself from his soundbyte of yesterday that he and Mr Gerry agreed on everything as regards the EU constiution. And Mr Chirac has reported to be considering the question-
"are there really any very good reasons for voting yes, other than Beethoven, Schiller, being nice to Giscard after all the work he put in "free", and stuff like that".
If you can't see into the future,
you could consult your local branch of the BVM.
nice messages were left for you, but unfortuantely particularly prejudiced types in the cryptofascist wing of your RC church messed them up. So what can you do instead? well have a good game of Xbox. leave off writing, and make sure there's no nasty short-circuits in the cable when you go off shift.
Has finally spoken!
wow.
Chancelor Shroeder has asked the people of Spain to vote YES! in the last banking day before their EU constitution referendum.
why has he done this?
well its easy.-
Beethoven was German as So too was Schiller.
He also wants España to be at the heart of Europe coz at the back of his German mind he still nurses fears about Napoleon, who Beethoven didn't like.
And this is a very good reason to vote YES!
People in Spain have done very well out of Europe, and have an awful lot to offer Europe, and the spanish are becoming very european and all that. It is not that unusual to see spaniards sitting on terraces sipping milky coffee these days. And having the euro has helped them forget the british a little at long last. Pressie ZP has asked that everyone doesn't go out (or stay in) and "not vote", coz that might make spanish people look like "plastic europeans" in the eyes of the others and slow everything down. If people vote YES! he says he can keep his diverse country together in a diverse sort of way and go on having a big influence in Dublin's financial district where the real Europeans drink their milky coffee and hatch their plots in a sort of mid atlantic twangy accent.
Let's see what happens.
It is worth noting that the Tripartite gov's main party, the PSC is calling for a YES! vote as is the PSOE (pressie ZPs party) and so too are the other centre and right parties PPC, PP, CIU et cetera...

here is bcn indymedia coverage on Gerry going to Montserrat but not seeing the BVM-
http://barcelona.indymedia.org/newswire/display/160189/index.php
basically attention, was being drawn to the fact that gerry wasn't seen on any demo today, or even in an art gallery, and as such, is just like the rest of his generation of political leadership.
Scared of being arrested and eating too many fererro rochés.
I'll upload Eoin O Broin's article when he offers to buy me a pint @ the very least and tells his dublin equivalent to stop calling us the "microleft" ;-)
I suppose if Mc Dowell ever comes, he would get to see the BVM. ;-)
