Excellent Concert in Carlingford Heritage Centre

Celebrity Performers Heard in Holy Trinity Church

A well-shapen and very complete performance was given in the Co Louth venue last Sunday at the same time that the game between Tyrone and Armagh was taking place to decide the destiny of The Sam Maguire Cup

A small and disciplined audience heard an excellent recital in CarlingfordHeritage Centre given by Carol McGonnell (clarinet) and Finghin Collins(piano) late on Sunday afternoon. Composers featured included Poulenc,Schumann, Sir Malcolm Arnold, Milhaud and Joannes Brahms.

Carol McGonnell made light of intricate rhythms
and showed sharp timing in some very demanding music. Her quiet presence was ably supported by Finghin Collins.

An impressive feature of the recital was a piece entitled *Low written in 1991 by Gerald Barry (b. 1952) which, given just before the interval, was
quite extensive, colorful and dramatic.

So good to know the audience was small enough to be able to maintain a proper sense of discipline. It can often be a problem at such events these days unfortunately.A fine report Mr Crudden - keep up the good work.

'Poulenc,Schumann, Sir Malcolm Arnold, Milhaud and Joannes Brahms'
That's ok, then. Just so long as there wasn't any Bach, or his Irish imitator, John Field.

Next time, how about including some Morricone, given as how he is the greatest living classical composer?
Good to know that there are some cultured people on indymedia who appreciate great music.

by John Cage, you just can't top that. I'd crawl through Dublin on my knees to hear that. Some fecker spoilt it the last time by coughing.

Last Saturday I went to this brilliant nightclub, The Ecky, with my friends. The tunes were spun by DJ Dance-a-Lot and the mixing was fantastic. Afterwards, I went back to Ossies gaff and had a load of smokes and went to sleep. More next week.
