Dec 17 - International Callout for Solidarity with Bradley Manning!

category international | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Wednesday November 30, 2011 12:12author by Solidarity Report this post to the editors

Mobilise Solidarity on Bradley's 24th. birthday - Dec 17th. as he faces pre-trial at Ft. Meade!

FREE BRADLEY MANNING! END THE WARS! *Ft. Meade, Maryland, USA http://www.bradleymanning.org/news/march-rally-for-brad...aring *U.S. Embassy, London http://wiseupforbradleymanning.wordpress.com/2011/11/30...ning/

Bradley Manning, a U.S. Army intelligence analyst, faces life in prison for allegedly sharing a video of a U.S. helicopter attack that killed 11 civilians and seriously wounded two children in Baghdad, Iraq with the WikiLeaks website. The footage had been withheld by the U.S.military from those trying to discover the truth about the attacks.

Bradley Manning is being detained on suspicion of blowing the whistle on the Empire's nefarious activities, by disclosing the "Iraq War Logs", the "Afghan Diaries", the "Guantanamo Files" and embarrassing U.S. State Department cables. In short, he's been charged with telling the truth!

Bradley, who spent his teenage years in Wales and was shipped through Shannon Airport to Iraq, has been tortured in U.S. military custody.  He has remained in U.S. military custody for the past 18 months since his arrest in Baghdad.  His military tribunal pre-trial hearing begins in mid-December at Ft. Meade, Maryland, USA.

This solidarity event outside the U.S. embassy in London will be on Bradley's 24th. birthday - a day that many of his supporters will gather outside of Ft. Meade and U.S. embassies worldwide.  We invite you to join us in London to demand FREEDOM FOR BRADLEY MANNING and an END TO THE WARS!

*If you can't make it to London, we encourage you to hold a solidarity vigil for Bradley at your closest U.S. embassy or military base or instalation involved in the war on Afghanistan and Iraq.

*More details of the London embassy demonstration to be released in the coming weeks.

PRESS ADVISORY

WIKILEAKS:
MEPs sendletter to US government expressing concerns about the human rights of Bradley Manning

Wednesday 30 November 11:30, press room, European Parliament, Brussels

MEP's Marisa Matias (GUE/NGL), Christian Engström (Greens-EFA), Ana Gomes (S&D), Marietje Schaak (ALDE) and Christofer Fjellner (EPP), will present to the press a letter addressed that same day by themselves and  50 other colleagues of the European Parliament to President Obama, Members of the US Congress, and U.S. military authorities.

The letter refers to very serious breaches of the civil and human rights of Mr. Bradley Manning, the young soldier whom the U.S. Army has accused of releasing classified information pertaining to possible US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The open letter to the U.S. government specifically calls on the U.S. government to grant the request of the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, to meet privately with Bradley Manning.  The US government has so far denied the request of Mr. Mendez, which was prompted by reports that Bradley Manning was imprisoned for an extended period in conditions of solitary confinement, nudity, sleep deprivation, and other psychological abuse.

The U.S. Army has accused Bradley Manning of "aiding the enemy," a capital offense that is punishable by death.  The 23-year old soldier has been imprisoned for 17 months without yet having had his day in court.   An initial hearing has recently been scheduled for December 16.

A copy of the letter will also be symbolically given during the press conference to a member of the U.S. organization Veterans For Peace, Gerry Condon, who will take part in the press conference.
