“Earlier today a Republican Network for Unity Ard Comhairle delegation, returning from a series of meetings in Glasgow, was detained at Belfast International Airport arrivals by a group of approximately twenty (20) uniformed and plain clothed RUC/PSNI members. As one an Ard Comhairle member from Derry was being questioned, the plain clothed RUC/PSNI man menacingly told him that he was well aware of the make up of the individual’s family and of the details and names of his children. By all accounts it appears that members of the Gardai were not truthful in their dealings throughout Michael McKevitt’s case. The latest conflicting evidence between two senior Garda officers certainly warrant an immediate investigation to identify if flawed evidence also contaminated the civil case in Belfast, resulting in a double miscarriage of justice. read full story / add a comment

A DEADLY haul of drugs, including the powerful horse tranquilliser ket-amine, has been discovered by children after being abandoned in a north Belfast street. The mix, which included Class A drugs, was found by children playing in a built-up residential area in the Oldpark area of North Belfast this week. A local Parent then contacted CFAD who subsequently passed the haul to the Sacred Heart Parish Priest, Ciaran Dallat for safe disposal......... The lengthy trial has now ended and the Nobel Peace Prize winner has been found guilty and sentenced to three years jail and hard labour. However, in a move surely aimed at avoiding international sanctions, Home Affairs minister General Maung Oo said outside the court that military ruler Than Shwe had signed a special order suspending the sentence and ordered that Suu Kyi should spend 18 months under house arrest. read full story / add a comment

It has emerged that Group 4 Security [G4S] a worldwide provider of private security and risk management services is be set to launch a bid to provide prison custody services equivalent to that of services already provided by officers of the Irish prison service at some Irish prison and detention centres. The global security corporation already operates a number of prisons and youth detention centers throughout the world especially in the UK. In the UK the firm provides detention services at a number of high profile London police stations.
