OscailtWhy capitalism must be challenged: Coalition & Sinn Féin’s shift to the rightThe failure of the economic recovery in Ireland to deliver for the needs of working-class people is becoming increasingly clear, if anything living standards are worsening. The past number of weeks and months has seen the publication of reports with ample proof of this.
There are now a record 687,000 people waiting for treatment in public hospitals, the vast bulk of whom are waiting to see a consultant as outpatients for the first time. On the census night in 2016, 7,000 people were classed as homeless, rising by 81% since the census of 2011. Today it is estimated that there are 8,000 living in homeless accommodation, including nearly 3,000 children. Many are now being threatened with eviction from their homes by vulture funds with an alarming rise in the number of summary judgements.
Why not directly attack the real right wing scumbags in FF/FG who have actually implemented
the austerity instead of attacking a minority party that hasn't ever been in government yet in the south?

Always fomenting division on the left while the right freely run riot.
Are you guys controlled opposition or something?
What the left needs is to unite more. Not more of this kind of divisive political suicidecauses coopted by capitalist media, business and partieshttp://www.indymedia.ie/article/106258#comment3012812017-09-03T16:58:39+00:00Red rose wiltingI have to sympathise with the import of disillusioned lefty's comment on the art...I have to sympathise with the import of disillusioned lefty's comment on the article dismissing Sinn Fein policies - even though I have never been a SF-leaner. At the end of the posted article the writer says (and I've read this kind of rallying call in many left-leaning articles in many publications over the years) "Workers, young people, women and LGBTQ people need a party of the Left that represents their real interests." Guess which 'party of the Left' the writer has in mind! When I see 'workers' being tied in a litany that embraces 'young people, women and LGBTQ people' I hesitate, because I know the business fraternity, the capitalist media and the mainstream political parties have long ago targeted these groupings for commercial and political co-option and manipulation. Business rakes off the spending power of 'young people' by selling trendy clothing, sex accessories, pop music and hitech gear of all kinds to them through nonstop bombardment of clever advertising. (The Electric Picnic is an annual moneymaking event fawned on by the media.) Women and LGBTQ similarly are an identified business market. (Ever hear of the pink dollar?) Mainstream centre-right parties continually 'champion' the women's and gay-trans causes, with no intention of becoming less right-leaning in economic policies.

When I read nonstop championing of sexual issues and 'equality' in Independent Newspapers I see pseudo-social concern and a commitment to lots of entrepreneurial profit making. I don't see new radical politics.
