Republican Sinn Féin Cork carried out a protest picket with other like minded groups at Daunt's Square, Cork City from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday 12th March 2011.
Each group was clearly identified by their individual banners, all carried posters condemning the proposed visit of the English Queen Elizabeth.
The message was clear that as long as English forces occupied part of Ireland their Head of State and Commander of their armed forces would not be welcome here.
Leaflets were distributed explaining the reasons for the protest and highlighting that this invitation was extended by rejected politicians and not the people of Ireland. Members of the public read them and gave a positive response much to the dislike of Garda plain clothes special branch offices, who even with the cut backs were reaping the rewards of overtime all of course thanks to ERII's upcoming trip.
It is well know that under the 26 County State legislation that peaceful protest is a right. Yet harassment by plain clothes police persons was the norm on the day with names and addresses taken.
Is it now a CRIME to voice your OPINION.
