New hope for the gentle hare as radical parties head for 31st Dail
Those of us who have been campaigning for decades for an end to thew horrors of live hare coursing are hopeful that the radical parties heading for the new Dail will press for the abolition of live hare coursing and fox hunting, and that the Labour Party in government will honour its pledge NOT to support any attempt by Fine Gael to bring back carted stag hunting.
The return of the courageous Joe Higgins to the Dail is most welcome, as is the election of several United Left Alliance candidates.
Sinn Fein, though officially pro-hare coursing because of a vote aits last Ard Fheis, will hopefully revert to its previous position of being totally opposed to such cruelties.
Fans of recreational cruelty have been gloating for the past 24 hours about the demise of the Greens...in fact there will be more anti-bloodsports TDs in the new Dail than there was in the last one!
We'll be calling on them to follow in the footsteps of the late Tony Gregory and push for a ban on hare coursing.
This practise is an insult to the name of sport...
