FT refuses to run ad about Shell in Nigeria

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Wednesday May 19, 2010 12:13author by Brian Alance

The Financial Times says it had no problem editorially with an Amnesty International ad criticising Shell's practices in Nigeria but had to pull it for legal reasons. In case anyone is in any doubt what people in Ireland and beyond are up against when trying to get justice, remember you are not really dealing with the touchy-feely Shell that sponsors local events in Erris but with a well-oiled, well-funded global judicial machine that will stop at nothing to maximise profits.

And in case anyone is in any doubt, just remember the two lads currently in jail.

And check out the reports on the Shell AGM this week...

The almighty bottom line.Shell spend more on ads in the FT annually than Amnesty could dream of for a years budget.

Nice exposure though, confirms the FT's long suspected numeracy.Or is it numerology?Watch BP spend more in cleaning up their image over the next year than they will cleaning up the Gulf.
