Another world is under construction? Social movement responses to inequality and crisis

From Irish Left Review:

Presentation to the the “Equality in a time of crisis” conference organised by the Egalitarian World Initiative and the UCD School of Social Justice (May 6 - 7).

This talk looks at the effects of partnership on social movements in Ireland over the last two to three decades and sets this in the context of "international civil society". It talks about how "partnership" is being abolished from above across what the state sees as different "sectors" - unions, community organising, women's groups, LGBTQ activism, disability rights, environmentalism, development / solidarity work etc. etc. and the nature of the assault we are now seeing on social movements. It goes on to ask how movement organisations, NGOs and community and voluntary groups can respond to the new situation, both individually and collectively.
