RSF have called for new Irish language mobile phones to be made available throughout the country.
Whilst the development of an Irish language mobile phone is to be welcomed, the decision not to market the Samsung Tocco within the Six Occupied Counties is to be regretted, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Féin has said.
“The development of a handset offering menus and a dictionary for predictive text as Gaeilge is long overdue. However, such a product should be available to all of the people of this country, and not merely on one side of the British-created border,” he said.
“Other manufacturers should now follow suit and develop Irish language software for their mobile phones. Meanwhile, the network providers should ensure that all such handsets are available throughout all of Ireland.”
