Healthcare is a right not a privilege!
Following on from the success of the March last 29th March and representative Conference 26th April the Public Health Care Campaign believes that we should continue the pressure. If we don't stand up for our rights and a better health service we won't get it.
Statement and Aims of the Public Health Care Campaign:
We call for an end to the constant crises in, and underfunding of, our Public Health Service.
In one of the wealthiest countries in the world it is past time we had a fully funded and life-long Public Health Service available to all when needed, and equal and speedy access to emergency and hospital services irrespective of income and place of residence.
We join together in the Public Health Service Campaign to act together to seek through word and agreed action:
1.End the Health budget cutbacks and embargos on staff recruitment.
2.Equal access to hospital services irrespective of income and place of residence; no public hospital closures or downgrades.
3.A fully funded, adequately staffed and life-long Public Health Service available to all.
4.Immediate and major investment in tackling the national emergencies in the Accident & Emergency service and in Hospital Acquired Infections.
5.An immense reduction now in the public waiting lists for diagnosis and for treatment.
6.For the highest standards in diagnosis and in communications with patients.
7.Investment in public hospital beds instead of co-location tax breaks and land grants to for-profit hospitals.
8.A primary care system, based on public service and not-for-profit principles, to allow people receive excellent care in their homes and communities.

Your Health - Your Protest
2 pm Saturday 11th October 2008
Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
No cuts in Health spending in the budget!!
The crisis in the health service goes on and on. For a first hand account of the experience of an elderly woman in the Mater this week see this link:- http://ballymunsocialist.wordpress.com/
Even getting a trolley in A&E after hours is now a privilege. And we're still months from the winter.
Let's build a big turn-out for October 11.
Message from Janette Byrne, former cancer patients and spokesperson for Patients Together :
Planning for the protest march of October 11th:
In recent years we have all heard of the horrendous way some cancer patients have suffered in our Health System.
* Late diagnosis. (Too late for our friend Susie Long and many others)
* Misdiagnosis
* No Beds
* Long waits for scans, chemotherapy, radiotherapy
* Some losing their lives not to cancer but to hospital acquired infections
As part of the ‘Public Health Service Campaign’s’ protest on the 11th of October and with your help we want to create a ‘bandanna bunting’
What’s involved:
* If you were a cancer patient you can bring a bandanna and pin it on with everyone else on the day.
* If you had a loved one who experienced cancer and you wish to pin a bandanna on their behalf that is fine also.
* Bandannas may be signed and include a message.
* We want to make this cancer patients support as large as possible.
* If you are unwell and unable to attend the protest you can post your bandanna to 82, Finglas Park Dublin 11
* Conor MacLiam, husband of Susie Long, will pin up the first bandanna before the march
Only with your support will this happen.
Lets make this protest the greatest ever. We did it for the Antiwar campaign, we did it for Irish Ferries, we even did it in support of Bewleys; now your health deserves your support.
Please forward this message to others

Seems to me that there is a lot more that should be 'happening' within OUR Health Service.
Unfortunately a Bad Attitude is Running Overtime ,Snobbery is Rife, even in Illness.
SAD BUT TRUE.
Having recently brought my toddler to Aand E at the Lourdes, waiting 5 hours and then being charged 60 quid for it I definately want to go to this..
- but the flyer doesnt give a time or a place to start the rally (unless Im so tired I just cant find it)!
Please can you update it to give thse details. I feel really strongly about the state of the health service here, why doesnt Ireland have a National Health Service free for all people, with high quality care for all.
The flyer has those details. But it's OK to be tired.

BUSES
Irish Nurses Organisation and SIPTU Branches have been authorised to hire buses. INO and SIPTU members and local groups should contact the local SIPTU or INO Branch. Waterford Council of Trade Unions are running a bus up: contact the UNITE trade union in Waterford.
THE FAMILY of a woman who died in the toilet of the AE unit at Dublin's Mater hospital earlier this year after waiting hours for a bed has urged the public to turn out in large numbers for a protest march against health service cuts on Saturday.
Full marks to the unknown volunteers for the work of distributing the leaflets for the march around the Infirmary Road area. However it seems that some of them at least do not have the heading indicating the organisers of the march, or have had the heading removed. There has been one complaint (the contact details were left on) about anonymous leaflets and anonymous events; an understandable one.

Hi !
RSF will be present on this march - we were at the last one (Saturday 29 March 2008 http://11sixtynine.blogsome.com/2008/03/30/saturday-mar...blin/) and will have as many as we can muster on this one as well - full marks to the organisers.
Thanks!
Sharon.
RSF member on the Dublin 'Health March' , Sat 29 March 2008.
meself and a good few mates will be going on this
hope tens of thousands turn out for it and we can close the city centre down for a few hours as that might help put pressure on cowen and his rich pals to do something about it
fair play to the unions for organsing it and to republicans for supporting it
“Following on from the success of the March last 29th March”!!!!!!!
You predicted 70,000 would turn out for the last march and less than 6,000 actually did. How do you quantify this as a success? What work has been done since then? Have campaigners been in the areas most affected by the health crisis? Not fuken likely! As was pointed out previously, the organisers simply aren’t politically capable of harnessing the genuine anger out there about the health service because they have no connection with the affected communities.
Still, it won’t be a complete waste of time, the Swp, PBP, Socialist Party etc… will get a chance to sell some papers and recruit new members.
Prove me wrong.
The organisers welcome the co-operation of those who have connections with their 'communities'. They could contribute greatly to the success of 11th October by employing their political capabilities and organising a large contingent from their particular community. From Cabra, say.
A copy of our Newsletter outlining our work since 29th March can be had from healthcampaign@gmail.com.
We are hoping that we can count on your attendance at our upcoming peaceful rally in Dublin. Held during World Animal Week, ARAN is using this opportunity to call for tougher animal protection laws in the new animal welfare bill and to raise nationwide awareness of cruelty inflicted upon animals in Ireland. This important rally is sure to create a positive frenzy on the streets of Dublin and with the national media and we hope you will be a part of this exciting experience!
We have been very fortunate to receive countless offers of support from various kind people across the country — thank you to everyone who offered to help; we cannot overly state how much we appreciate your support! There is still people out there whom we need to hear from, is it you? To make this event the biggest and best it can possibly be, we are once again asking for your help. Please promote the event to your family, friends, and co-workers—you would be surprised the amount of people you can reach by simply telling them about the rally!
To help you spread the word more easily, we have produced a snappy 1 minute promotional video of our rally. Please note this video is not gory, but is a perfect tool for encouraging anyone who wants to put an end to cruelty to animals to attend the event. Plus it features exciting footage of ARAN’s previous 2006 rally which was also a tremendous success!!!
Click here to see the short 1 minute video. Once you have finished watching this, please send this video clip to as many people as you can. Post it on your BEBO, My Space and Facebook and anywhere else where you think it will reach people! Please, don’t leave it to someone else, be pro-active, help us spread the word and ensure that this event will be one of the best we have held for animals in 10 years. Without you’re support we cannot make a difference and the animal abusers will go unnoticed and it is they who will have the last laugh!
