Does psychiatric back-up improve the effectiveness of an army? Will it help to mitigate the effects of war? Is all war madness? Are psychiatrists and mental health professionals colluding in a chaotic and destructive adventure?
Politics? Morality? Opinion making? Is psychiatry conferring a status of rectitude and orthodoxy on the war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan? Obviously the wars are taking a toll on those involved in the military on the American side. Are those on the opposite side suffering as much? Or more? Will they cope better or worse in the long run? Is psychiatry more of a help than a hindrance? Do we all need "help" to fight our battles?
