A public meeting to discuss the future of the food we consume will take place on Thursday April 20, at the McMunn Theatre, NUIG at 7.30pm.
The meeting will be addressed by Larry Edwards from Genesis Farm, New Jersey, a hugely influential community farm and education centre in the US.
Edwards, who received his PhD from Harvard University in chemical-physics, left his comfortable lifestyle and formal education career 25 years ago to pursue a way of living more creatively and sustainably on the planet.
A film called The Future of Food will also be shown on the night. This hard hitting documentary focuses on farmers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, and shows how during the past 10 years, genetically engineered crops have infected the food supply of the Americas, and undermined cultivation techniques that have been refined over thousands of years.
Consumers are becoming more concerned with each new food crisis that arises and farmers are struggling to maintain control of the crops they produce.
People interested in the food they consume and farmers who produce these crops will find this meeting a revelation.
The meeting is sponsored by Galway Organic Growers and the Young Greens.
